anyone ever run a bias ply 12 inch on a 10 inch wheel?

currently have a set of 10 inch pro-stars with 10.5 slicks mounted. wondering if I'd be nuts to run a 12 inch tire on the same?

    thanks in advance!

thank you! thinking of narrowing and think a 12 inch will look/hook a lot better with my future plans.

Double check with the fire manufacturer and see what they suggest as the max side the wheel to mount the fire on and if you speak with a person in tech, ask how the contact patch acts between rims

I used to run 12 inch bias ply's on 10 inch rims. They were protrac N 50's best I can remember. After several miles and lots of burn outs they would wear uneven on 1 side as can be seen in this picture. A buddy of mine ran the same size on his car with 12 inch rims and his wore more even.

I'd move up to a 12 inch rim with 12 inch slick, I think with a 10 you'd only be utilizing the center of the footprint.

My thoughts exactly except that may very well depend on the psi of the tire. Hence my last reply.

I always thought the 12 inch tires looked better on the 10 inch rim, they just wear uneven after awhile, I'd do it again.:)

The quicker 10.5 racers use a 12 inch rim, some even find success with a 13 or 14. This is extreme hp and double bead locks, so I'm sure this doesn't quite apply to a typical street and strip car..but it does demonstrate one thing if you want to maximize hook on a certain tire - go a little bigger than rated width, or at least match it.

I have run 14 and 14 w slicks on 12" wheels, air pressure is critical. Not saying a wider rim wouldn`t be better tho !
I tried a pair of m/h n50 tires on their min. width rim , advertised by Jegs , once.
On the 10'' rim with 14 pounds of air in them the edges of the tires still didn`t touch the ground. I called Jegs and told them, they sent me a return to shipper deal and gave me my $ back . Many yrs. ago.

It is physically impossible to run a 12 inch tire (really, any tire) on the same rim as you have a 10.5 inch tire o

We run a 15.5 bias slick on a 12 wheel.

It will hook like nobody's business.

They'll be fine. Nothing wrong with that at all. Also, there's NOTHING you can do about 2nd rib tread wear on a bias ply tire. Nothing. It's inherent in their design. Always has been. Course with slicks, there are no ribs, but still you'll see a difference between the first 4" from the outside edge. It's just the nature of the beast.

My new 295 60 d15 hoosier quicktimes were designed for an 8-10" rim , hoosier states it in their info sheet. I have them on 8" prostars, and with 26# of air (setting in the garage) they appear to have a full 10" contact. I can always lower the air pressure a biy to help it.

                        I have a minitubbed 66 dart with 28x14.5 15s QuickTime pros on 10in wheels.
Fit and look fine. ........But never buy a pink car if you don’t have time to paint it.
