The latest adventure in my 74 Duster race car was land speed racing in July of this year. The event took place at Loring Air Force base in Limestone Maine. My 440 powered Duster reached a top speed of 175.39 mph on the 1 1/2 mile track. An awesomely fun weekend.

That is sweet! Are you running M/Ts all around? What gearing did you use?

M/T radials on the back and Moroso DS2s on the front. We tried 2.94s first then 3.23s. I still had my drag racing converter in it and it was WAY wrong for this event so it liked the 3.23s a little better..

Congrats!!!, thats awesome!!!!

I secretly have a desire to roll 200mph in something I build.

Been 185mph so far.....could've reached my goal with another gear.
8500rpm in 5th gear....185mph......A60 Autobahn Spangdahlem Germany.
500hp turbocharged 4 cylinder HEMI.........we'll leave the exact model vehicle up for speculation.

I have been 115 mph in my 70 340 duster, I can;t imagine what 175 mph feels like. I was hanging on for my dear life LOL. Great job..Wish I was in the passenger seat.. Whats the next step, diff converter I assumme and then obviously have to mess with gearing again..man what fun!!! Oh by the way great lookin car.

Yeh....how about some details? No movie clip??

The car was equiped with an iron head(ported 906s), 440, 12.8 compression, Turbo Action converted with the 727. I took out the Dana 60 Ladder bar/leaf spring set up out and put an 8 3/4 in it's place with QA1 shocks. Did some aero stuff and had to install a fire system. The car is IHRA and NHRA legal so most of the safety equipment was already in place. With a tight street type converter it would have broke 180 mph because we computed close to 8% converter slippage with the 8 inch converter.

What's next? maybe a whole different car. A friend that helped me on this project has a tube chassis 67 Barracuda that we may run with this motor and rear end. The Cuda is much lighter, much lower, and much more aerodynamic. Hoping for close to 200 mph.

back in high school, my 71 barracuda would really start to squat at about 85 - got it up to 120 and backed off... my 69 Fury ragtop gets real loose and light in the front end at 110.....

175...I can't imagin the rush that must give you... Good job!!!!!

!!EXCELLENT!! Heck ya could've let go of the wheel, it looked like it went that straight!!

With super stock springs, an adjustable pinion snubber, and QA1 shocks set real stiff there wasn't much squat. QA1's are worth their weight in gold both here and on the drag strip.

Wow 200 mph that is crazy fast, when you slow down to 100 does it feel like a Sunday cruz up the coast LOL... I watched the you tube vids and your engine really comes to life ... I put my ear phones on and cranked it up..

I went 125 in a 351C 71 Mustang and I think I peed myself....I was the passenger and they guy had bad ball joints so we didnt track so well....

Wow, that is just crazy cool. I guess that is called "BRAGGIN RIGHTS!"

x2. I'd get that timeslip in a plastic block and screw it to the dash!!!
