1957 DeSoto 8 3/4"

How much space should be between the ends of the axles and the thrust block?

Pre '64 open thrust blocks are 1.25" wide. You must install a 1.5" wide thrust block or run Green (non-adjustable) wheel bearings.

Where can I find a 1.5" wide thrust block? Or I could put a limited slip in it correct?

Out of curiosity-

What is the gear ratio on that DeSoto chunk?

3.36:1 is stamped on the ring gear. I think that wasn't the standard gear ratio but an optional one.

I have a newer open carrier you can have if you pay shipping.

I might take you up on that. I just want to see what me dad wants to do, cause I really don't need a limited slip in that car.

I fitted a rear end from a full size early 70’s pickup. Moved the perches and bolted it in. Much wider, and original wheels fit. 3/4- 1” room left between tire and fender.
1959 regent 4 door. It goes good with the 400 i put in.

@JGC403

I might be interested in that 3.36 ring and pinion if you want to get rid of it and if I can confirm it will work in a 741 case.

Will this do it?
