Built in 1961 and 1962 only, the Lancer was the up-scale version of the Plymouth Valiant, and came equipped with the 3.7L "Slant Six" engine. The engine is tilted at a 30 degree angle, which allowed for these compacts to have a lower hood line than other cars of its day. The 770 was the luxury model in the line, complete with hubcaps, extra chrome, a two field alternator and other upgrades. It also came with a push-button 3 speed automatic transmission which was an interesting feature soon to be replaced with a column or floor shifter.
This particular Lancer was owned by the same family in Ohio from 1962-2004, where it spent much of its life in a garage not being driven. It still wears its original paint, interior and only has 35,000 miles on the car. I have owned it since 2004 and it has undergone a series of upgrades including disc brakes, new wheels, suspension, and engine replacement.
