The 7.5 rear end has a flange to flange measurement of 53.200. The 8.8 after cutting down the long axle is 56.500. making it 3 inches longer than the 7.5. My question is what kind of tire clearance problems will this create.

I assume your Dart has the 7.25 rear axle and not a 7.5 rear axle. If you have the right wheel offset, then an inch and a half on each side won't be a problem. If you're trying to use stock Mopar Wheels, then you're going to rub.

Sorry it is a 7.25 what wheels would you suggest and where can I find them thanks for you help

I have a 64 valiant and my 8.8 is shortened with a second short side shaft. I installed my leaf springs inboard 1.5” and have cobra r wheels(17x9”). The off set is to much that the tire hits the leaf springs. I installed a 1/2 wheel spacer and the tire to wheel clearance is 1/4”. I also had to roll the fender lip pretty much flat with the fender. So my suggestion is no wider than an 8” rim.

I have the 18x9 cobra r’s 295/35/18 6” back space with my 8.8 so I used a 20mm spacer all is well. I’m going back to the 15x7 cop wheels, In the near future with a 255/60/15.
