To all you long time Mopar guys/gals you may not want to hear this question asked again. My wife has a 1966 Valiant Signet 225/6 car which is the same as a US Dart. I want to convert the car to Power Steering. I have a Pump, Brackets & Pulleys from a Slant 6 car. I have a donor 1978 dodge Aspen. Can I use the Steering Box & Pitman arm from the Aspen? What is the procedure to Shorten the Column shaft? Is there a good Tech article for that? This is my first ever forum post, so don't be too hard on an Old fellow that is a new Mopar guy.

Welcome! I believe you'll need to use a pitman arm from a 64, 65, or 66 A body. I don't believe this will fit the Aspen box but IIRC should fit boxes up through 72. Also does your pump have the large nipple return line (takes about a 5/8th inch hose and used through 66) or the later smaller nipple (either 5/16th or maybe it's a 3/8th hose). You'll need to match your steering box to the pump depending on which size pump nipple you have. I personally would not shorten a steering shaft by cutting and welding. Many people on this forum are looking to change power to manual on their early A's so finding the proper length steering shaft shouldn't be too difficult. 63 through 66 is the one you need. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. Once I get the power steering thing done then it will be Disc brakes, large bolt pattern rear end and Electron ignition. So I'll probally be back on here a lot. Thanks again
