Looking to see if anyone has a 440 4speed 1967 barracuda and what are you running for exhaust manifolds thanks

So the challenge with any A body BB with four speed is that most headers are in the same space as your clutch linkage.
I have gone headers as well as original A body manifolds. Most will recommend either the tri-y from Schumacher or the TTI headers. But to use those on a manual BB, you are best off using a hydraulic clutch.

Ok I'll look into that thanks

Be the same factory manifolds with a 440 as my Wife's 383 Formula S..

I have Schumacher headers, they make them for manual trans as well, at least they did, fit no problem with factory linkage.

I did see them but current options for both TTI as well as Schumacher list a modified bell crank.
You can go that route but using the hydraulic clutch fixes all the clearance problems. And gives you the option to run an 11 inch clutch.

I also forgot to mention that any header you use requires you to use a lightweight starter.

And I didn’t even think about the fenderwell headers.

I made this swap about some yrs ago. I did not want a hydraulic clutch. The only headers that fit a big block a body and a manual transmission and regular linkage is TTI exhaust headers. The Tri Y headers only fit automatics. Accurate Exhaust will make the adaptationa to your Tri Y headers but the cost was too much overall. Big Block A body exhaust manifolds cost a fortune and cracks are prevelant. The TTIs are a fortune too, plus I had to buy TTIs modified Z bar which I had to grind on a bit to clear the starter housing when the clutch returned. I ran a mini starter. Everything is fighting for the same space. Do I love the result, yes. If I would have forseen the difficulty, I would have run a small block and four speed or a Big Block and an Auto.
BTW, I run a low deck 383. A 440 and a four speed would take the difficulty level up
anothr notch.
Good luck.

i know everyone hates it when someone cuts the inner fenders but who's car is it anyway? if it gets the car on the road to enjoy and you're happy that's the most important thing surely. if someone buys it in years to come and want it stock then 'it's only metal' and can be put back.
neil.

Yes
I was admitting I had overlooked them. I didn’t know that fenderwell headers would generate so much traffic. So many times we have our ideas and we forget that we’re here for fun. Some preservation of auto history but mostly it’s a hobby. So yes by all means make it your car how you want it.
I’m an engineer professionally so I know I can go way off in left field.

Fenderwell headers suck, period. Hydraulic clutch? Thousand dollars plus.
Sorry, you couldn't pay me to change the spark plugs on a big block in an A Body. I love my small block stroker.

i made the fenderwell headers for the 440 i put in my old 65 dart and plugs were easy to change. reach under the headers from the front and you can get them all. hydraulic clutch is great if you have an external slave cylinder. those poxy hydraulic release bearings suck big time! even on oem stuff (which seems to use them across the board) the seals fail quite often. then the trans has to come out just for a bloody hydraulic seal, what a ball ache!.

That may be true, but after watching my best friend cut up his new '69 GTS Dart with a 383 to install fenderwell headers back in '69, there's no way I would ever cut up my car like that. I still don't ever want to change spark plugs in a big block, on A Body or B Body for that matter. Except my Hemi!

if we all liked/did the same thing life be boring right? variety is the spice of life and all that. imagine walking a show field of identical cars, boring......

B-body HP manifolds. The steering column has to have the outer sleeve cut up to the firewall, which is tricky on a '67 as the inner sleeve tapers right where the cut needs to be. I took my column apart and cut the inner sleeve up a bit so that the smaller diameter part was still there are the end. BUT, the head pipe wants to occupy the same location as the torque shaft (Z-bar). We fought that for a long time and finally just moved the bar back as it was all custom parts anyway. This time around we went hydraulic throwout bearing so there is no problem with the exhaust. This is the 440 in my Barracuda, but it has a 727. The four speed is in my son's 1967 440 Dart GT convertible and I don't have great pics of the linkage or hydraulic setup. Hydraulic is expensive unless somebody gives you a box of parts...

I have Schumacher headers two sets one automatic one for 4spd. The 4 speed set was altered by Schumacher when they did that modification years ago. The new Schumacher company does not do the mods. The modification is rather simple I’ll see if I have photos. Black set automatic/chrome 4 speed
I hear the new Schumacher may start doing mods for 4 speed again but?

My 4 speed Schumachers.
Schumacher sent them to Accurate, who modified them, and sent me the entire exhaust with their collector/downpipes.

For the DIY person.................
Exactly how mine were done. (above posted) Schumacher did mine.

I wish it wasn't so , but it's so much easier to work on everything with fender well headers. Couldn't imagine doing the clutch with chassis headers
