I've been helping a member with his carb issues in PMs. Some of the info and photos I'm posting might be helpful to others.

I believe all springs are OE from 67 but I can not say for 100%. My dad did not do any modifications to his car but you never know.

I counted 75 turns (I recounted)

The hook on the end goes through a hole in the linkage at the rear end of the kick down link and keeps a washer and the link from coming off.

I wondered why the spring was there and it became evident when I removed it and the linkage all sank down. It seems to be there to counter the weight of the linkage.

These are the kick down linkage spring

Here are the photos of the throttle return spring

It has 39 turns and is painted white.

There is a good likelihood that this spring was longer once as the bend on the left end looks a bit wonky

Found this in my parts catalog. looks like my springs are OE. I Still think my white return spring has been modified.

The "wonky" end of the spring should be a straight wire about as long as the coils of the spring. No doubt it was cut.

I agree that it should be longer. I have a vague memory of helping my dad "fix" it 35+ years ago.

I also have one that appears to be cut (broken) off a 67 Valiant 273-2 that I had.

I tell you though I don't like only having only one return spring. I like the type that have the outer and inner spring. What were they thinking back then?

(And yes I know I could add one :))

....or you could reach down and turn of the ignition key off to stop a runaway.

Mine's orange, but then I painted it with the engine...trans return spring is red. This is the 4 barrel setup.

The red spring is a later part that is the one sold by all the reproduction places as the "correct" spring for just about everything.

I think there is a 2bbl vs 4bbl difference as the 4bbL seems to be shorter and attaches to a different location than the 2bbl

here is the rest of the parts book list for return springs.

it would have been nice if they had been a bit more descriptive in the parts book

If you look at the 66 parts book they show 3 different numbers on the a-body
6 cyl 2264376 (no specifics given)
6 cyl 2402590 blue 30 coils
8 cyl 2658308 gray 30 coils

In 67 they list 4 different numbers
a different number for the 6
6 cyl 2843757
8 cyl 2806462 white 39 coils listed for A B & C bodies
8 cyl 2658308 gray 30 coils was listed but only for the a-body

Not sure if the 2658308 was just a carryover or it was used, the only engine unique to the A Body on 67 was the Commando 273.

There is no reason for there to be a difference between the 2bbl and 4bbl, the shaft is basically in the same location.

That leaves 2806462 and probably used on both the small block and big block.

A couple people have shown that they had what looked to be original 39 coil white springs but both appear to have been rebent, no idea what the original length would be.
