1968 Barracuda Tail Panel

Hey guys, I picked up this 68 barracuda a couple months ago and the tail panel trim was not installed. It came with the 68 trim as well as a 69 trim panel. My question is regarding what seems to be an excessive amount of holes in the middle portion of the panel (see photos). Is there some kind of piece that goes in the middle on a 68?? I assumed it was just the body showing through. Clarification would be helpful. Thanks.

67 has a center and upper and lower trim your trunk resembles

There is no trim in the middle on a 68. You will need to use the 69 tail panel or fix the holes.
I like the 69 tail panel better anyway…..

Yes, 67 deck lid. The problem with using the 69 trim is that there are two cast pieces that work with the 69 tail lights that correspond with the center trim. It may look ok, but is may not...

Yeah, it looks like you have a 67 deck lid that someone drilled out for the 69 panel. This was (obviously) not a great plan considering it was a 68 Barracuda.

You really have to have the tail panel(s) that match the taillights, or the whole thing will look like a kludge. But since you don't have any backup lamp holes in the 68 valance, you pretty much have to use 68 taillamps. Which makes it a shame that somebody just painted that decklid, because you have about 30 holes to fill... 8(

Fill the holes.

And add the holes needed for: 68 trim clips. fish emblem, and barracuda emblem

Then run the optional 1968-only maroon center tape filler to cover the holes you filled that aren't used.

I agree, if it's a true 68, make it original.

Thanks for the replies guys….I would like to keep the 68 tail panel considering the tail lights. I think the stripe might just be the way to go. This is the first early barracuda I’ve owned. I bought it about 2 months ago and keep finding stuff the seller misrepresented. I trusted him more than I should’ve I guess. I’ve always been pretty cognizant of buyer beware but this guy had a good sob story.

I think you have more holes than a 67 trunk would have. It looks to be a 67 but not sure what these hole are for?
