Are you sure that this is a 71 model year 340 and not a beginning 72 model year engine? This block was cast around the time they would be ramping down 71 production and starting 72. Then you need time to ship, machine, and assemble the engine...

Could be. Could be a late 71 engine.

This could be interesting to tear down. Does it have 10.5 compression and 2.02 intakes or 9 to 1 compression and 1.88 intakes? Could this be a late 71 spec motor that went into a 72, or is it a 72 spec motor???

If it was a 71 engine, I'd think about it. 72 engine, not so much...

I have a 71 340 Challenger Convertible. Wouldn't mind getting a hold of a spare original unmolested virgin 71 340.
