I was looking for a nice 72 hood for a snorkel hood on my 71 Demon and I saw this car for sale. Hood is perfect and the Dash pad was a bonus. Nice heater box I can use. Just a bunch of really nice parts to put away for my Demon and then I will offer the rest to friends that come here .

Its a shame to strip this car but parts have to come from somewhere. Slant six car runs perfect. Tomorrow Dave "69383valiant" are going to take her out for its last ride. Its been a while since I hammered on a slant. 49k on the odometer runs quiet. The owner said it wont shift to drive. Soe we'll wind second tight until it shifts. This is going to be a blast Here is a bunch of pics to use on the site for future reference.

He wont, it will get cut up for parts. That's what his original post says. Never mind the out buildings packed to the gills full of A body stuff he already has. What I still dont understand is why show pix of a near perfect low mileage creme puff to everybody on here if all your going to do is cut it up for parts, as well as use such little tact to actually tell everybody your gonna cut it up for parts. All that does is piss people off. Then you get people hating on you in this thread, then you get pissed off etc, etc.

I have seen this play out with the OP so many times before. Sure posting pix of a rotted beyond belief car or wrecked hard enough it's not fixible so it's getting parted is one thing. But posting pix of something this nice and saying your cutting it up, its almost like your want to poke people on purpose.

You want to buy low mileage or clean creme puffs and cut em up, making your place the place where less than perfect MoPars go to die, that's one thing, but posting pix of the creme puffs you intend to cut up in order to provoke people is quite another altogether. If you get hate mail in your thread over this car, and other clean cars just like it that you buy to cut up, you shouldn't wonder why, because I just spelled it out for you.

That's too bad. I'd love to drive something that nice to bomb around in.

So would I. Been looking for a clean moredoor for awhile. Slant or V8 as a DD for back and forth to work that's easy to fix and maintain. 49K on it SMH. Where less than perfect MoPars go to die. That would be the ideal 408 4 speed sleepermobile.

I don't think Road Kill would even use that car for one of their projects.

But none of us bought the car and it is not ours to do with.

This is still America and you are free to do what you want with your own property.

That is very true, however the OP posts stuff like this, then gets hated on for it, then he gets pissed off about getting hated on, and will go off on a tear about how everybody here is an Ahole or something or other. I'm not sure if he even realizes that by posting stuff like this he's gonna get hate mail.

I got no dog in this hunt. It's not a 67-69 barracuda. Just a clean low mileage moredoor dart. I been looking for a similar one to buy locally.

Thanks, Matt. I was going to be polite and just scroll on by but I agree. What a shitty thing to do, take a low mileage running car and cut it up for parts that you can find elsewhere. They made all of these cars that they are going to make BUT the dash pad is reproduced. Heater boxes and hoods are not hard to find. A simple trans swap may be all this car needs.

Just a thought, but would you consider maybe selling the car to a college kid or some other 20-something year old? Might be able to get some young blood interested in the Mopar world. Would be perfectly reasonable for you to take a profit, maybe $700-$800. Then you could purchase parts you need AND save a classic AND introduce a young person to our hobby! Like I said though, just a thought.

                          I agree with MoparMat.
No need to cut that car up! none at all. its not "cool" or fun, its sad...in more ways than one.
Now 1 less on the road all for more parts to add to the "collection" as if all that stuff is not readily available from cars that really couldnt be saved.
To add further insult to injury, people like this will often proudly claim they scored the whole car for just $400, then post in the same forum/board or group how the grill for sale for $400, the fenders for $300 ea..the dash for $700, bumpers, well those will be $200 ea..etc etc...because after all; "dont talk me down, I know what I got"
                          Seen it a hundred times.
Nothing wrong with making a buck, certainly nothing wrong with parting a car out that cannot be driven/repaired any longer, but taking one off the road for no real reason other than spares, all while smuggly strutting by with a raised middle finger as if thats Gods work or some BS, is just $^&*)! imo.

Here is what I don't get. This car was on face book for a month. Craigslist for two months. They had several people look at the car and tried to low ball them. One from this site who I won't mention. I did not get this car cheap by no means. But here is how I looked at it and went down the numbers with the seller and was honest.
                            Hood $500 keeping
                            valance $150 keeping
                            Dash pad $100 keeping
                            Dash complete with harness $300
                            Fenders $250 each
                            Bumper $150 its perfect
                            Grille $500 perfect
                            Heater box $100 keeping.
                            Gas tank and sender $50
Then I figured $500 in small parts
                            That is $2600 total
I gave these numbers to the seller on paper I wrote up before I got there.
The right side fender has a rust hole. The rest of the car is useless to me except for the 9inch spindles for strange race brakes. I may save the unitized front for repairs that come here. We do rust work on many customer cars . Go to a junk yard and let me know what you find.

The man was asking $3000. I was honest and said I cannot give him retail on these parts. He asked me if I could go $2500 I told him $2000
cash and I had a trailer there and the cash. He took my offer. Then $150 to go get it. This car has been for sale quite a while and no one wanted it. I need these parts I have printed with "keeping" behind it. So Subtract that off of $2150 and come and take it. Or give me $3000 complete.

The same thing happened with a Valiant sitting behind it in the pics and the red 340 Duster. That was a mint body on the Valiant with a stuck 273. Dave bought it for parts. He could not find a front clip for his car. Then some of the same members started complaining. The he offered it and no replies. So please get real . There are 71 two doors on Facebook for less and I don't see anyone jumping at them. I bought this car because I was looking for a long time for a mint 72 hood One year only. I sold mine on this site to a member for $500 and haven't found another worth using on my car since. I am keeping the Hood That is coming off as soon as the weather clears. So if any of you talkers want the car come and get it. If not enjoy the pictures.

People read magazines because there are pictures to look at. Most of you only ever provide nothing but words on this site. I give you all, things to see. If you don't like it let me know. I'll take my $40 membership and move on. I had a thread "Cars of my Past" members complained of pictures of cars I owned and stripped in the 70's and 80's. I haven't posted another picture on that thread since. Your loss , we all get to look at the boxes of pictures while sitting here. I thought you would enjoy that thread. Evidently I was wrong.

Maybe you just want to read. I myself would always page through to the next picture, LOL

I am sure now that I explained how I calculated the cost and sarcastically offered it to the cry babies. A certain mod will move this thread to parts cars. So I will say this. No parts are for sale on this site until I list it there. Won't be until after the Duster is done. Its money in the bank>

There are several ways to look at this.
In post #13 is a very realistic explanation of the selling history of the car and the reason to part it out for himself (and others later).
Perhaps people should reflect back to the '70s and the '80s when these were just cars.
A lot of them went to the junkyards in this very condition back then and were mercilessly parted and then crushed.
Many people back then and even today consider 4 doors as parts cars automatically.
It all depends on your perspective............
From what I understand from the many posts that Oldmanmopar has made here is that he won't throw anything away unless it's really junk, and the parts will all get used to SAVE many other cars in the future.
                              He's not stupid or wasteful.
Would you rather see the car sent to the pick and pull yard and parted out for a month and then the remainder crushed, or see it parted carefully over time and all of the parts used?

That being said, I personally wouldn't have the heart to part the car out.
The big reason is that I have a soft spot for 4 doors..........

Soooo......... somebody step up to the plate and save it then!
It's only 3 grand, what are you waiting for?
                              That's a fair price IMHO.

Understand needing parts I bought a 74 Valiant more door with a 318 for that purpose in a lot worse shape than this car but for some reason it kept saying save me so I did and glad of it if the OP wants it for parts good on him everyone has their own needs in life we shouldn't be one sided

                                    ^ what Dartnut said.

I'm gonna have to disagree with that. It depends on the hood, and the area of the country. Some hoods, like 70-72 Dodge A body, are hard to find now. Heater boxes are 45-50 yrs old and dry out, fiberglass cracks up.

This is a hobby, for most of us. Not everyone can afford to truck a nice hood across the country from Arizona or somewhere. Yes, it's a shame to part out a decent car. If it was in my driveway now, I wouldn't have the coin to put gas in yet another old car.

I will say that a 72 Dart grill is on my top 3 list! I would love to hang one in my shop.

In my opinion it's is your car so do what you want with it. However, I didn't have to read your entire post to understand when I see a dollar sign added multiple times to a post that the hobby is a business to some, and a passion for others.

While i don't like that the OP is going to cut it up for a hood, which is so easy to find a replacement for, it's sickening (dude: Dodge Dart Swinger (1970-72) | AAR Quality Fiberglass Reproductions), I do agree that it's his car and yeah, I parted out a Demon once.

That said, it's a four door. I need the rockers and the wheel houses for my Valiant, but I can't afford to ship that stuff from way over there (and I'm the middle of the country, not in Cali or Hawaii), so the parts demand on that car ain't great. Most of it will go to China to get made into stainless steel knives that rust. The seller is at least near the big shows and the parts may be enough to cherry out 4 or 5 other nice a-bodies that are each missing something but it's not necessarily using that whole car.

The other side: Remember the Charger that the guy beat up because he didn't get his asking price? Seller ain't that guy, so....don't bust his chops.

My request: please don't part it. Find it another home. I'll chip in $20 for another hood (You are close to the big shows, where you can find that stuff. It is one of the most common hoods in Dartdom). I never saw it for sale but around here, for $3k, that car's a quick sale in that shape if the seller works a bit. Drive it to Starbuckstown with a $5k for sale sign in the back window and I bet some hipster that's trying to get laid will come running so fast his skinny jeans will ignite from the friction. Or sell it at the Nats or Carlisle. Hell, I sold a non-running nasty old Hang10 Dart with no title to a lady at the Nats several years ago and she restored it to perfection. I couldn't believe what I saw when I went back 7 years later. THAT was a parts car.

When I see someone in PA say 'parts have to come from somewhere', I start to think you must not look that hard given that both huge national shows are within a days' drive for you. I don't have a huge Mopar show that's within 8 hours of me that I know of.

Besides OP, eat another cheeseburger. The reaper will come for you, too, some day. We'll get your parts stash one way or another! Vultures, assemble!:icon_fU:

Nice find Steve. Too bad so many are all about saving cars but not bucking up with the cash. I have no problem with this. You paid a fair price and it will definitely help other cars, like Demons and Dusters and 340 Swingers live. I get the, "it's such a nice car" thing, but hey, a month and no sell. Obviously the market isn't as strong as some would like to think for four doors! Even if I was in the market for one, this is not anywhere close to me, so why would I care what you did with it? Reality bites, we need parts for the cars that actually are important to most of us. Or, we can pay $700 for an AMD fender.........

Great score, I love the licence plate!

I already have 2 project cars, and a huge plateful of bills. I had tried to buy a 70 dart moredoor off a local little old lady. Car has not run in years. Is white with granny green interior. Needs everything mechanical gone through to make it run and be reliable. I was not looking as a parts car or making a list of individual pieces value, since my intent was to repair the mechanicals and daily drive it myself. Offered her $1,500 for it. Fair price. She said her daughter wanted it. Sitting on 4 flat tires had not been registered or inspected in almost 20 years. Oh well.

I needed some structural sheetmetal off a 68 notchback the OP had bought to cut up for the front clip. Enquired multiple times while he was tearing it apart, was told no problem. A few weeks later he told me he ran the rest of the carcass by his buddies place and his buddy scrapped it. I thought that was kinda shitty considering finding barracuda coupe specific non reproduced structural parts are really hard to find. I'm a good enough sheetmetal fabricator that I will make my own C pillar roof support sections to replace what was previous owner cut out, but it woulda been nice to have some I could have just surgically reattached.

I had a 74 moredoor I cut up that was completely shot and barely ran but was rust hole free except for the trunk pan. however I used a lot out of it to fix a 67 notch. Main floorpan, trans torsion bar crossmember, 318, K frame disc brakes. What I did not need sheetmetal wise or other partswise i cut apart carefully with spot weld cutters. 90% of it was used by myself or others on this site. This was not a cremepuff by any stretch of the imagination. A lot of miles and beat to death. Point is it took me almost 4 years to get rid of everything I surgically dissassembled from the 74, even the roof skin found a home to replace a rotted roof skin that had a vinyl on it. There were a bunch of structural parts left on that notchback the OP had that could have been used by other people on other cars to repair them. He was quick to scrap it, even after I enquired about these structural pieces I needed. With structural metal it's a waiting game a lot of the time until somebody needs what you have.

I do understand the OPs reasoning behind this, however theres hoods, heater boxes and other pieces out there that can be had pretty cheaply instead of parting out a clean low mileage starter car for someone getting into the hobby. Maybe the seller didnt advertise it in all the right places. Hemmings motor news would be a start. I dont know exactly what the difference is between a 70-72 dart hood. They all look the same to me. I'm using a 74 dart hood and hinges on my sons 69 barracuda. Looks the same as a 69 to me.

I have enquired about other parts from the OP before. Sometimes getting sorely answers like come out here to get what you need, to I am not shipping anything. Not possible for me to go physically look at stuff he's got, I am 1,900 miles from the OPs location. I have personally dealt with people wanting stuff then they back out for whatever reason. I shrug my shoulders and sell it to the next guy looking at the bright side that it's already boxed up.

So why did you quote my post?
I don't have a stake in the mad on that you have for the O.P. at all, as a matter of fact, I haven't ever spoken to him in person.
Cudos to you for parting out a nearly rust free '74 more door car and utilizing or selling all of the parts.
You just reinforced the O.P.'s position in this thread.
The hood and hinges off of a '73 and up Dart are a direct replacement (exterior wise) for a '69 Barracuda.
The difference is the under hood bracing is different between the years and the hinges must match the hood for the year it is.
No harm or foul on your part if originality isn't a concern..........

The hood is one year only due to it has the access holes for a snorkel scoop and the attacment holes are part of the frame. Not the slider attachment plates that plaque the 70-71 hoods with break out . I sold several parts at Carlisle last year and my objective for the weekend was to find a nice 72 hood. I sold mine thinking exactly what some of you said. "I'm close to Carlisle I grab one out there". There was not one hood for a 72 and not one nice hood for any 70-72. Sure there was one 70 hood with scoops for $1200. and the hood had issues. There alway bent down in the front , Rotted around the seams. Inner has holes. Outer has bad surface rust behind inner. Seller brings them to show and stands them on their rear points and ruins the corners. Instead of standing them up on there sides. And sellers think they are gold.

I have been doing this for years . Do you think I would pay $2000 for a car for a hood if If I could find one. And as far as Fiberglass I had a AAR and I gave it to dave friend Jim for $100 . They are not what they are led up to be for a replacement Fitting is poor and the hood trim doesn't fasten properly.

None of you will get my collection when I am gone. I have a son that is worse then I am and several friends that frequent my place. When I go they won't be on this site. They all tell me I am a fool fo listening to some of the Bullshit on here. But there are some good guys that come here that I help with what they need.

This is not a buisness or a hobby . Its a passion. I really like 71 340 Dusters and Demons the rest are just pages in the book of my life. For god sake I just stripped a 70 340 4spd Duster with AC. Do you think this dart means anything to me but a parts car. The duster and Valiant are sitting where Todd just parked the Dart. We call it death doner row. Sort of like that part on your license that say when you die your body goes to science to keep someone else alive. Hundreds have been in this area including some . R/T's GTX's RR's Superbees . Yes even sixpack car years ago. So I do not have feelings for some rotted beyond repair or 4 door a bodies.
