You are smart, but I for one probably couldn't resist.
You might want to strap that rearend in an X pattern. As the rear of the car can slide side to side as it is. In an X pattern it can not move side to side. Much safer way to go. Tom
I resemble that remark.....
Some folks say if you lose 1 on an x strap, it will pull sideways also.
Truckers will say use heavy chains, and in a bad wreck they also snap!
Stan, bite the bullet & spring for the good Kevlar stitched straps & ratchets. I have two sets, one set I've been using for the last 10 years or so. The second set has been stashed away for that just in case moment. When Bob & I traveled to races across the country with his enclosed trailer, we stopped every so often & checked the tie downs. Only once did we have a strap break, but we caught it before any damage was done. Back years ago, I bought some horrible freight straps & they didn't last a year before they started fraying at the hooks. Better safe than sorry with that beautiful piece.
Made it out to Xtreme Raceway last night for the test and tune. Tech was not what I was looking for.... They didn't look at anything, we just talked about obvious stuff. Anyway the little Colt did real well. Drove, stopped, turned, and other than a high idle and some small stuff I was real happy. I made one pass, just idled out and hit all the gears. Got it on the scales, any guesses? Here is the pass, straight as an Arrow, I mean, Colt!
Heck yea!!! Mopar on a diet. Looks a little like my AMC Hornet, maybe illegitimate cousins!???
Dang cool to see you reap some benefits of your labor! Can't wait to see a full pass. Even 2000 lbs.?
1750#. Makes it's first pass with a Prince tune playing.
Can't control the tunes! 2212, with driver, helmet, 4 gallons of gas. 2036 without driver. 1023 Front. 1013 Rear.
Ready to let her rip next time Stan?????
It's ok. Prince was badass. He doesn't get enough credit. How did it feel goin down the track?
Just a quick side note on Prince. When Eric Clapton was asked what it was like to be the GOAT guitar player, he said ask Prince. Back to our reagular programming!
Had to make an emergency trip to Ohio for family business. Back now and I have started back on getting ready. Colt on jack-stands to check all the bolts and lines. Just changed the distributor back to the Mallory, that Chrysler Electronic advance is acting up. Ran the valves and checked the springs, rockers and head bolt torque. Changed the oil and filter, no metal in the oil or filter. Changed two Dzus on the hood that were too tight. Going to change the rear shock valving and adjust front brake bias. Going to lower rear slick pressure. Need a set of driver pants and some heat wrap for the headers at the starter. Planning on Xtreme next friday. Oh yea, change out the trailer winch that quit on me, damn I hate a quitter. I was able to meet up with my Hero in MO, Mr. Slant Racer himself. I spent a little time with him and had a great time. Here is his Lancer Video. I also started on my next race head, later chamber drool tube. Going with big valves and springs and mild port. This will be my stroker 170 build. This will be a 210 cubic inch engine. Putting the Webers back together now.
Worked on the Weber carbs again. I am beginning to think they might be easier that this AVS! Have most of the jet parts on order now. Got the throttle bar working with good rod end bearings. Going to Xtreme tonight for more test and tune.
I've been looking at the Weber setup. Or I should say dreamin. LOL
Rusty I have an old Webber 44something or other in my carb stash mounted to some kind of VW intake with a K&N air filter on it. I have no idea where I got it but I’ll never use it. If you want it I’ll send it to you for shipping.
I'd love to have it, but I caint do it this month. I'm done for any extra spending at this point. Maybe first week in September.
I’ll PM you so we dont derail Stan’s thread.
