Can someone tell me if any of the manifolds' attaching studs on the cylinder head enter the water jacket?

Well, on my slant which came out of a '75 Duster, they do enter the water jacket. I had removed all the studs to have that area resurfaced at the machine shop. I got to remove the studs again as several of them leaked. Use a really good sealer. If you can, pressure check the system before installing the intake/exhaust manifold especially if using the high dollar gasket.

This was recommended to me, it's also on amazon. It's not shown, but also requires an activator. I was a little worried about it as it was kind of thin, but obviously it did work. So, there you have it. I ordered a larger tube than shown, I'd rather have too much than not enough. the activator was like 20 bucks and took a week to get it.

Do you think the white paste with PTFE that plumbers use would work? I have that sitting on my shelf. I understand the Permatex is top tier stuff.
BTW, that's a beautifully finished slant in your picture.

:thankyou: I don't know. I tried first a brown thickish permatex and thought sure it would seal, but it did not. Only takes a few drops coming out of threads to make one depressed! Only way to find out if a product works is to take a chance. I guess then a heat cycle can help? Since I have my slant on a engine run stand, this time I filled coolant system with the intake/exhaust off, pressure checked it and all was good. I guess if it works, it works . Seems likeI read that someone used the Red rtv, but I'm unsure.

RTV and Teflon paste have their places—this isn't one of them. Use the correct material for the job at hand.

Loctite 542 or 592 is the correct stuff.

Since we're on the topic. It is very much worth your while to get the good gaskets for the manifolds-to-head and intake-to-exhaust junctions, and read up on studs and hardware here.

I knew someone with super expertise would chime in~ but I'm getting there!

Hey, the product you recommend is sure to be satisfactory. It worked for you. I think you ARE one of the experts. The folks on this forum have waaay better memory function than I have. I'll do a project like this and years will go by before I do another, and I'll forget the procedure. Then I'll have to ask. I belong to many Mopar forums and with this one I always feel like I have to walk on egg shells. One wrong move and I get flamed. I've gotten several PM's here where other members told me they feel the same way, so I know it's not just me. It's okay though, these guys are super knowledgeable and it's worth it. Have a great weekend.
