Hello All,

I have a stock 1974 scamp that is an original 318 car. Has front discs and factory BBP all the way around.

I have dug through the wheel/tire thread, and i don't see too many guys running a 15x8 on the rear. i'm sorry as i'm sure this is redundant, but i'm looking at buying 4 new wheels and tires.

i'd like to run a 15x8 on the rear, and a 15x6 up front.

i'm looking for someone with a similar setup that can say...yes get a 15x8 with 4.5 b/s, and run a 255-60 R15. and it will fit. ( or similar)

also what b/s on the front for a 15x6? and tire size? i'd like to suck it in as much as possible w/o rubbing.

if someone with a similar car could post a 15x6/15x8 combo (with tire sizes) and b/s, that will work on a factory car, i'd be very grateful.

thanks all in advance

objections? confirmations?

REAR
15 x 8.0 in., 4.50 in. Backspace
With 255 / 60R15
Front
15 x 7.0 in., , 3.75 in. Backspace
With 235 / 60R15

With an 8" wheel you'll need 5" backspacing. Depending on how the car is screwed together, that could be too much. But easily fixed with a small spacer. Unless you can really accurately measure, that's as close as you'll ever get.
I can't say a 255 tire will fit, it's very doubtful on most Darts without modifying a lot of stuff. Hell, I couldn't even get a 245 tire on my '69 no matter what wheel I used. If you really need to go that big, start looking at spring relocation kits, offset shackles/mounts, and trimming the fender lips.

The 7" fronts should have at least 4" backspacing, up to 4.50" will work.
I'd down size the fronts to 225/60-15, the 235s are bound to rub somewhere no matter what you do.

thank you sir!! so much!

I am trimming the quarter lip, as it's getting painted at the moment. I'd rather not have to do the spring relo, it's just a cruiser with a 318 for the moment...

regardless...seem a little better?
REAR
15 x 8.0 in., 5.0 in. Backspace
With 245 / 60R15

Front
15 x 7.0 in., , 4.0 in. Backspace
With 225 / 60R15

i guess this will limit my wheel choices. i really like the american racing imposters that sell for $85 a piece.lol
ultra legend series, but i dont think they have this B/S.

Don't forget, I said I could not get a 245/60 tire on my '69 Dart. And it's virtually identical to your car's body. Most everyone will say they will fit. But nothing is guaranteed when I comes to these old Mopars.

I have a 69 GT and am curious what tire and wheel combo you are running as I am in the process of getting wheels for mine now.

Thats my bad, I didnt read it correctly.

So if I want to squeeze a 8 inch rim on the back, I should go 235 60, or 50.
Or...just put 7's with 4.5 bs all the way around... and put 225 or 210 on the front if I have to have the staggered look...

Thanks again for the insight

I have a 72 swinger,I'm running 15x8 on rear with M/T sportsman S/R LT 26x10r 15.BS is 4.5 no rubbing on springs or wheel lips, although wheel lips have been cut.On the front running 15 x 6 3.75 BS w/205/65/15.It is pretty close to wheel lips though.I'd take pics but car still up on jack stands, torque converter crapped out.Luckily I live 40 mins from summit went and bought a rim stuck in on car w/out tire so I could measure, you probably know but once tire mounted rim/tire yours. If your going w/wheel vintiques 63 and dog dishes you have to grind the grooves in the knubs that hold cap on deeper or else you'll have problem with caps staying on.Unless they"ve fixed their dies since mine were made.
X2 for measuring,

That's why I wound up with (4) 225/60-15 all around with (4) 15x7 wheels with 4.50 backspacing.

If you must stagger it, yes the 235/60 should work with those 15x7 wheels on the back. You could do this:
215/65-15 front, 26.0 diameter, 8.46 section
235/60-15 rear, 26.1 diameter, 9.25 section

Another alternative for the front would be 215/60-15 (25.15 diameter, 8.46 section) but don't go any smaller than that for diameter)

I have custom offset rallies on the back off my car. 5.25 backspace and offset shackles. I went with 5.25 because the 15 x 7 trim rings fit perfect. I'm running 15 x 6 on the front. Really nice look on the car. 255 60 on the rear, 215 65 on the front

Go with some 15x7 wheels.
235/60-15 works well on the back. 245's start to get tight with stock suspension.
If you want to stagger the fronts, 225/60-15 works well.

I have 255/60/r15's on the back with an extra half inch spring relocation given... 15x8's on back 15x7's on front 215/60/r15's on front...

I have 5 inch backspace on back n 4 inch on front...

I think you should be good with 5 inch backspace on a 15x8 inch wheel with 245/55/r15's...

A stock rear wheel well has 11 inches of room from lip to spring...

The section width on a Cooper Cobra 245/60/r15 is 9.5 inches... That leaves plenty of room...

My 255/60/r15's section width is 10.2 so I needed the extra 1/2 inch from spring relocation...
