okay, first of all are you going to run a mechanical fuel pump? if not, then you can run any of the roller cam units.

if you are going to or want to run a mechanical pump in the future, then you'll need the "long snout" roller cam that has a provision to run the eccentric for the pump. otherwise with a "short snout" you'll need the kit from hughes engines to attach the eccentric and that's a few bucks.
I haven't seen it all by far, but all the LA roller motors I've seen so far have had long nose cams, even if they didn't have the eccentric on them. They just used a cam thrust washer with a deeper cup with no eccentric.
The short nose cams are for Magnums, and even though they will fit and work in a roller LA, if you select one of those you have to keep in mind that the Magnum cam specs are based on their 1.7:1 rocker ratio and will be considerably tamer when paired with the LA's 1.6:1 rockers.

i've encountered a few short noses in very late LA's but for the most part they're the long with that deep cup that eliminates the eccentric.

FWIW, LA's are 1.5, magnums are 1.6. also, all non police M bodies 1985-1989 with 318 2bbls got a roller cam with a long snout. 4bbl motors used a flat tappet 360 cam.

 Yeah, ya got me. 1.5 vs 1.6. My bad. Don't know what I was thinking, other than I was playing with some 1.7 rockers on a Magnum a while back... But the difference in ratios still applies when swapping cams.
