Hey guys. I've just joined the Mopar family with my 1974 Valiant 4 door saloon, so I'm new to this forum. And I already have some questions i need answers for.

I was just wondering if my Valiant was a matching numbers car and it looks like it isn't.

The VIN is VL41C4F 221369. That means A Body, Low price class, 4 door sedan, 225 RG, '74 model, and built in Newark. So my Valiant was built in 1974

Now to the engine
On the driver's side, it says the engine code is 2806830-7. On the other location, passenger side right below the head, the only thing I can see is an F and the number "2" two times, like "F 22...". F means the engine was built in 1970, right? Is it possible that the engine was built in 1970 and put in the '74 car because the engine starts with "F 22" (VIN is ...F 221369)? The only thing I can imagine is that they once swapped the engine and gave it the car's VIN.

Under and behind the alternator you'll find a pad of the block that sticks out at the head gasket joint. It has a series of stamped letters and numbers. That's what you're looking for. I've always found it easier just to pull the alternator off. You'll probably have to scrape some dirt and paint off to see it good.

I've actually found the pad you've mentioned but I can't read the number. I'm gonna scrape off the paint how you said then. Thanks for the answer.

I don't know if it helps, but here's the number of my 1971 slant six :
Engine VIN.jpg

1 = 1971
B = Hamtramck
145923 = serial # of the car (the complete VIN is LL29B1B145923)

This number is located on the passenger side of the block, under the 6th spark plug (firewall side)

Thank you very much. My CID is 4F 221369 but I think it's kinda strange. My VIN is VL41C4F221369, so the CID is the same as the VIN's last 8 digits, so nothing wrong with that.
The first letter of CID is the building year, so "4" is correct for 1974, but I can't find a plant coded with an "F". The letter "F" is also a code for the model year of 1970. And then there's the number on the driver's side, 2806830-7. Doesn't that mean that the block is a 1970's block?

Ooooh I've just found a chart where it says that the 2806830 engines were built from '68 to '75.

Yes, 2806830 is a cast number for slant six engine blocks.

And F plant code is for Newark, Delaware.
So, your 4F221369 engine is matching and original to your car. :thumbsup:
