anyone got a line on some STD (3.625") 273 rings? Rockauto, ebay, your stash? I might as well rering this while I got it out although the bores are fine, no ridge and the old rings are still in "one piece" Never ran the motor since I aquired it so the old ones may be good still but they have been in there 52 years....
Ford 272 (3.625") has 3/32, 3/32, 3/16 ring pack, $52 bucks?

I Forgot about them. They got some cheap pushrods too!

They list these as possibly the same rings at $59.69 a set.

Thats what I needed to know., thanks. I guess you can't trust some websites.

I ran a 273 for years. When I first got my car I bought extra engine parts. I believe I have a brand new set of standard rings. Pm me and I can reply if I locate them today.

Just checked. I bought rings from egge about 25 yrs ago and couldn't remember if they were stock or not. Turns out tbey are new 30 over 273 rings.

If I have no ridge and taper is barely readable, could old ones be reused? Looks like just an old sludgy motor with maybe mid level mileage as I still see a hint of crosshatch on 2 of the cylinders. Maybe just break the glaze and reinstall?

I'm sure it's been done a million times before, but I don't see how anyone could really say if it will be adequately good or not. Even with crappy bores, I've always put in a fresh rings. At least the tension on the rings will be as it should be.

You sure do want to hone with the new rings to help them seat.

Either way, at least get the ring gooves cleaned out.

bummer, thanks for that attempt.
Give Kevin or Steve a call at Westside Auto Parts ,San Luis Obispo....93401, Area code . (805 ) 543 5943. Steve owns the place ,an old school hot rodder . When I left in '09, The had a huge selection of old time engine rings.

Hastings main warehouse has 10 sets of 633 std. on the shelf and "can pack" the 2M633 std. set (which means they have that also but not put in a box yet). Find a shop that deals with Hastings and get them ordered up.
