is anyone running this combo??? i have everything except for pistons thats why i want to try this has to be on pump gas so trying to keep comp 10.0 or under any suggestions other than build a 360 ?? thanks

If you have to pay someone to do all the machine work to the pistons, its not worth it. If you can do all the machine work yourself, then yes its worth the time.

If you're OK with cast pistons, a set of Sealed Power LC371P or Silvolite 1278 will be a good start. They have a compression height of 1.658" and stock 360 pistons are at 1.664". Should wind up in the neighborhood of 9.7 CR with Magnum heads. At roughly $225 a set you should have enough savings over the cost of custom pistons to have the skirts clearanced.

Cost to cut 360 Crank to 318 mains?

Cost for 4.00 stroke 318 mains. $340.00

cost of 318 cast pistons to fit....$225 plus cutting skirts....shop labor?

cost of 318/390 pistons for 4 inch stroke $499.00

you save a couple hundred dollars and have 50 cu inches less...sounds like something I would do....NOT

Unless you have the 3.58 stroke crank with 318/340 mains already....i would not do it....

It's an enticing can of worms ain't it? That's the dilemma I am in the middle of right now.

360 crank in 318 block:
Pros:
Already have what I need except pistons.
NOT a 360.
No block clearancing needed.

Cons:
Need to turn mains to 318 size. $275 for that and grind/polish
rod journals in local shop.
Cut piston skirts for counterweight clearance. $150 local shop.

Cost:
$225 for pistons.
$275 crank work.
$150 piston work.
Total: $700 plus $150 to recondition rods, rings, bearings, block bore + hone, rebalance. Gonna guesstimate $1400 total.

Now, how much is a 4" stroker assembly that you still have to balance and clearance the block? Either way it ain't cheap. :banghead:

Not having a belly button engine? Priceless.......

stock rods need small clearance at bottom of bore...

either engine will be required to be balanced.
