318 4v exhaust question

This is very close to a stock 318 in a 70 Duster w/AT, but does have an alum intake w/small Holley, headers, and Im ready to have the exhaust built. I want Turbo mufflers that are not really loud, and over the axle and out. Question is should I have an x pipe installed for this set up? Again, no racing and no long distance touring. Not sure I would notice the difference, but I've never had one?
 
H-Pipe style would sound more mopar.

Can go without, easier to service, does not tie your dual pipes together.

I have 89 318 with 4 bbl in my truck. Manifolds and single factory exhaust. It hauls the mail just fine, I am happy with the performance as is.

Here is the way my '76 318 dual exhaust truck was set up. 2" pipe and stock manifolds, exit out the back under the bumper.

H-Pipe weld together some kind of loud new mufflers. Then I put resonators at the rear bumper area to quiet it down some.

Still had a nice tone without it being annoying and no drone.

Could hear the distinct mopar sound as it was being wound up with the 4 bbl secondaries.

Thanks, I just dont want to leave 'easy' power on the table if its not going to be a noticeable improvement!
 
I don't know what sounds more Mopar, but I do know adding any crossover changes the exhaust note. Whether you'll like that change is anybody's guess. To me, the crossover always "took away" from the exhaust note. Made it less crisp. Kinda put in a "blahhhhh" sound. So my personal preference is, I don't like them. I spoke with Doug Thorley years ago when I ordered a set of his headers for my 65 360 Valiant. This was probably about 1995. We chatted for quite a while, as he loved to talk. He said in all the dyno testing they did over the years, that they never showed one iota of a power gain with any type of crossover. He also echoed my opinion of the sound. He didn't like it. But opinions vary. You might like it.

Aiming both Banks into the path of each other doesn't sound good to me. The way the pressure wave is introduced with an h pipe isnt prone to collision as an X pipe.
 

I had a 73 Duster 318, 2 barrel that I put a cam. lifters, aluminum high rise, a 600 double pumper Holley, 340 heads and exhaust manifolds on. I was going to put headers on as well but decided not to as it would have involved cutting up the fender inner wells. I was able to use stock exhaust system but cross overs back then were not a thing back then. I think if memory serves me that I had Walker glass packs on it and it sounded nice but not too loud for the neighbours as long as I wasn't too heavy on the gas pedal. It stood up against pretty well against most 340's back in the day, as they say.
