318 factory cams

-
All 318 are in the 240 range with no more than .400" lift any performance cam is a major upgrade for a 318.

Which 318? The Mexican 318's had the intake/heads/cam from the 340 and were rated 270hp.

The regular 318 in the Usa didn't have a 340 cam or anything close. It was something like 373/399 lift. Tiny and crappy...almost anything is better.

i hear ya....i was trying to find info for 318 police engines, like whats in my 66. i pulled it from an 87 gran fury highway patrol car, it was a vin "M", i tore down and inspected the thing, it has a 360 top end, 360 sized valves and ports, non-roller cam, pretty simple. all i could find on these things is they used hypeurectic pistons with a .020 raised piston pin height to deal with compression, rated at around 8.5:1. this thing just seems much much more snappy and torquier than my 74 318 that was a standard 210 horse truck mill....eventually id like to do a cam/valve spring/head port job....

hi, ok I looked up cam specs, both 4 bbl 318's used same cam, .390 int, .420 exh. difference was in cylinder heads. one had 360 heads with 1.88 & 1.60 valves, other had 1.78 & 1.50 valves which is a 318 head. both used same intake and T.Q. carbs. these specs are from NHRA , and from mopar.just food for thought. I also found same specs in my mopar race manual.

The 340 cam has a advertised duration much greater in size than the standard cams used in all other regular engines. The duration @ .050 is pretty tame. If you want to use a purple cam, the. The upgraded 340 cam with similar specs to the OE cam is a good cam to use. The duration specs @ .050 are much larger a d will wake up the engine.

I'd like to get those links if possible.

I've been trying to find factory specs for the roller LA motors and the Magnum motors to compare them to the earlier 318/360s.

..also the diference between the 150 and 170 HP versions listed in most service manuals.

Let's just say what I've found is somewhat unclear.

anyone ever run a 340 auto cam in an otherwise stock 318? with a 2bl or 4 bl

It is a popular upgrade done millions of times.

Yup, I did it. With Rhoades lifters, 10.5:1 compression pistons, 68 340 intake, and Holley 600 vac secondary cam. Daily driver in 68 Barracuda fastback. Ran great and got 17.75 MPG on highway with 2.76 gears. I had to upgrade the heads from stock to 77 360 heads due to too much compression. When I changed heads, I went from 24" of Hg at idle to 22.5" of Hg at idle.

yea hopefully sometime next summer. i have a suspention swap to finish first. i was leaning towards a 340 cam mainly because im not racing this thing, its my summertime daily driver. I may get a little stupid on the weekends but thats pretty much it.
