would a 1970 dodge 1/2 ton long bed truck, equipped with a 318 & 4 speed manual, have a forged crank?

Well I went to the yard today. It did have a 318-3 cast on the side, however, turns out it was a 3 speed manual trans, column shifted. I pulled the pan, the crank was cast. It was all original, no signs of ever being apart. Engine was painted red, which I hear is correct.

Better luck next time I guess. Thanks yall.

The 318-3 is what Chrysler called there industrial engine like the were used in Motor homes. Had a lot of differences to the ones used in cars and pick-ups. The fact that this one says 318-3 on the end of the casting number has nothing to do with it being a 318-3. The only 318's that for sure were steel is in 67 back 318's. I'm sure they were found in them in later years here and there.

Industrial red paint is only a general rule of thumb through 69. From 70 on a cast crank could be found in most anything. Without knowing I would assume the earliest casting were the highest quality.
