I was hunting for old brackets I took off this motor in 1988. It was in an original 340 car that I bought back then. Don’t suppose there is much interest in numbers on a 318 but I went ahead and snapped some photos While I was there.

What year of engine is it? Got a pic of the numbers on the front of the drivers side bank? You may want to pull a freeze plug out and see how much distance is between the cylinders inside.

I believe from the pictures I posted it was cast 10/02/1969. I can certainly check the space between the cylinders. What story will it tell me? I know on my 1971 360 they are very close. Mopar engine books say it is same casting as a 340 and can be oversized accordingly.

Yep! Also accepts an SRP 4 inch .090 over piston to make a 333. It may also have a steel crank in it. 1969 318 pistons had the highest compression height and highest stock compression. I personally feel the safe limit with stock caps with long term reliability at high power level to be stock crank with up to a stock 340 bore. A girdle certainly wouldn’t hurt anything. I think they’re as good as any other factory block with a set of Milodon or MP caps and lightweight rods. I’ve see the eagle I beam rods take some fantastic abuse in a stroker. If it were mine on a dream budget, fill to the bottom of the water pump holes, aluminum caps with a girdle, aluminum rods, W2,and a flying toilet.
