Hello ,
Normal story started out with good intentions , and have strayed somewhat ,
Originally just wanted to put an engine / trans back in my old derelict Charger , as it had sat for over 20 years without wheels eng ect, first step find an doner car ! now here in Australia they are pretty much gone , I literally had to pay $500 plus towing for a wreck with a dead engine / rust / and not a straight panel on it , there was a time when I wouldn't have accepted this car for free ! That said I was/am grateful to have acquired this old 77 CL Chrysler parts car .
Turns out the Motor was actually ok (after some work) and it was a rare manual car , so after doing a bit of work on the doner car , I was driving it up and down the road :)
Long story short stripped it out and put it all in my Charger , and I got to drive it again after 23+ years! :)
It wasn't as I remembered it however , Gone was the Dual Quad 440/Tflite and in place was the stock low compression 245Hemi 6 with 3 speed floor shift manual :(. But a least it was /is going again ...
Then I started thinking what can I do to improve the performance ? originally I thought I will stick with the Hemi 6 do the webber thing , But Nah
Had a look around the garage and I had an LA 318/904 (old ) a Built VG30 Twin Turbo/Glide or an 63 318 Poly (runner)......
anyway have been a bit of a secret Poly fan for a while , so decided to see if it will even fit in an A Body ? A Right Hand Drive A Body ??
So I cut the front off the old 77 CL to make a jig of sorts , as this is a bit of work for a maybe, (couldn't find info anywhere on this swap) probably for good reason :)
It Fits ! so then I thought well what about a bit more power??
so it's been morphing into a more

Still need to do oil pan / Turbo return line / Trans lines and everything related to the boost side of it .

I'll say this, i've seen some fascinating fabrication skills out of you aussies!

very nice work! I look forward to seeing more.

Is there much clearance between the engine sump/oil pan and the center tie rod? Looks like it might be back a few inches more than a standard sump would be on an LA motor?

Thanks,
I used an Australian 63 Dodge Pheonix oil pan ( 62-64 Dart b Body ?) and they are already very close to the Australian A Body drag link , so I just made it as large as practical , as far as I can tell via the trans mount, I am close to the original position of an LA engine . Cheers Peter
