I put a 1975 318 in my 1968 dart it has electronic distributor added the hei on firewall. By passed the white resister it runs but cuts out when the engines gets to temp when cruising. Will idle can get into it it will run good any suggestions please help if you can.

Are you sure this is NOT a lean burn distributor? Is it missing the vacuum advance? Does it have two pickups?

1...Get car warmed and battery "normalized" after starting, run at high idle with accessories off. Get an accurate measurement on battery running voltage. It should be nominal 14V. If it is above, say, 14.5 I would investigate

2...I ran a STOCK coil with HEI with no resistor, something some on here claim you cannot do. But you may have a coil that is "less compatible" or even one that was already somewhat damaged. The obvious thing is to reconnect the ballast

3....Be certain the distributor pickup wires are not reversed, and if yoiu can not resolve this, search "rotor phasing."

This is the correct polarity hook up for the pickup wires

Del is right. I've seen some coils shut down without a ballast and then start working again after they cool off. Might be what's goin on. Have you verified a no spark condition when the engine quits? Also, did you remember to use the heat sink grease on the module?

I used the same diagram when hooking it up and the guy helping me did put a special grease on it. It does not quit running it just misses when cruising. I have another coil but first I will reconnect the ballast. Thanks guys I will let you know.
