TA's were U or O and it appears these do have the offset pushrod holes. If U's were used on some other application with standard pushrod holes it would be a fluke.
After taking a second look, I stand corrected. It does appear they have the offset pushrod holes. I know the U heads I had didn't have that.
The offset pushrod hole heads were only for the small block six pack cars as sold on the car by Dodge and Plymouth for the 1970 model year on the Challenger T/A & the Plymouth AAR Cuda. The rocker gear was a adjustable mechanical rocker that had the intake off set by an amount I can not remember right now. The old DC books said that you can use the six pack rockers on a W2 Econo head. (*I think* it was a very particular W2 head they mentioned.) I have a old DC book that states this. I read it about two weeks ago just thumbing through it. An interesting history book IMO. Mostly in that the parts listed are out of production for a long time. If you want, I’ll dig it up again and look for it, take a picture and post it. I’ll get it done early this evening. I gotta get my tail moving. I had it backwards. It's the intake that takes the W2 rocker. The exhausts are standard. I knew the intake pushrods were the ones moved. All I had to do was think about it. duhhhhh. lol
I have a set of the ones that were produced in the 90's for stock and super stock class racers. The ports are large enough to push a coke can into and were obviously done by a head shop. W2 rockers will not work unless alignment is not important to you. Mine use a .500 offset on the intake and standard offset on the exhaust. I am using a MP pieces that is actually .450 offset but I can shim the rocker enough to get decent alignment. I will be flowing these soon to check how good they are.
Well that makes the T/A heads even more of an anomaly if the W2 rockers won't work. The T/A rockers are even more rare. They certainly wouldn't be on my radar for any reason.
The rockers can get pricey for sure. There are new ones by Sharpe and others. I actually found mine in Australia. We did a trade for the W2 rockers he needed. I have no idea where these blue MP ones came from I have or what they were designed to fit, but they work.....
Thanks for all the replys, was just looking for a " round about" worth. Totally understand all lines of thinking. The person that would be most interested are the ones with AAR or T/A needing a set of heads and who i was mostly talking about as far as value. Being only 5123 cars produced.... Being a machinst...all things are possible with enough money. Rockers can be modified and or machined..... once again all in what someone is willing to put into a certain project. Have already got some pretty good offers for heads .... from AAR , T/A owners looking to complete thier engine. Thought some would appreciated the original condition pics.... like pics of the old hemi found in the falling down barn etc.... Also agree if i was building a small block MOPAR, I (personally ) would want big valve/high flow alum. .....
I just sold a single “u” offset push rod hole t/a head for $300. I had it since 1990. A friend of mine has a machine shop and was rebuilding a t/a motor that had a cracked head. It was very clean, still had the original guides in it, looked like it had never been cut or had a valve job. The seats were nice, not pitted. These heads are only worth something to somebody who is restoring a t/a or AAR cuda. Otherwise they are useless to a regular guy. It’s all a matter of finding the right person at the right time. But those heads look almost unusable. I guess if they aren’t cracked, the seats could be replaced.
Thanks for that post. I found what I was looking for but not what I thought it said. I have heard various people trying the OE 6 pack rockers on a W2 head with various results. Having not been there myself, I could only answer in the way I did. The manual page pictured below.
As far as I know there are specific W2 (&5) rocker shafts and rockers that go with them. This is in there offset and rocker body dimensions. Length of top from the fulcrum points center. (And others as well.) MP uses/used Crane for this as you may know. The best set ups are from Crower and TD, which is often mentioned by name from MP. Yellowrose has more information on this and there issues.
I have been looking for TA rockers that are not bank account breakers but you know Mopar people....it's gold. I know every head and flow bench is different but I am at 298cfm at .600 lift. That is better than any head I have ever flowed. I have no doubt these heads were built by a Pro Shop. The rocker pedestals have been machined. The Intake manifold bolt holes have been re located to accept a large port Mopar M1 W5 Manifold also. I have been unable to find the shop. I was "told" the heads came out of Florida on a SS Duster. Every port is numbered and both heads are number stamped, I would love to find that shop....CTA 25, CTA 26...
