For sale are pair of freshly ported 340 X-Heads. The heads are ready to be bolted onto your small block Mopar engine. The heads were ported/assembled by a well known facility in Metro Detroit.

Below is a breakdown of the work that has been completed. Please note the heads have never been installed on an engine following the porting/reassembly processes.

Baked blasted and magnafluxed heads (no issues)

    All tapped holes were chased

CNC Porting - intake ports / exhaust ports and chambers

Installed guide liners in the intake and exhaust guides

Installed harden seats in exhaust for unleaded fuel

Cut spring pockets to remove ID step

Cut for valve seals - cut top of guide for seals

Milled exhaust face - fly cut exhaust surface

Performed valve job - cut intake and exhaust seats and grind plus back cut valves (2.02/1.625)

    Milled deck - 70cc

    Installed freeze plugs

Washed and assembled heads with the following:

    10-degree steel retainers

Comp Cams 10-degree 11/32" with no lash caps recess

Comp Cams dual valve springs 1.437 OD, 322 lbs./in. rate, 1.150" coil bind height

Comp Cams valve spring locator, steel, hardened, 1.500" outside diameter, 0.060" thick (set of 16)

Installed Manley valves - exhaust (stainless steel: 1.625", diameter: 0.3415", stem: 5.065" length)

Installed Manley valves - intake (stainless steel: 2.020", diameter: 0.3415", stem: 5.040" length)

If you have any questions, please let me know.

    Location: Metro Detroit

    Price: $2,700.00

*Might be able to deliver for free, if you are located on the way from Michigan to California (right now southern California, but might have some flexibility). Departure from MI is currently planned for late December/early January.

To save time and redundancy ad nauseum. According to the last time these were for sale, there are no flow numbers and Modern is the place in Metro Detroit that worked them. Reference through the search 340 x heads moparvinny. There you have it.

Great idea... I thought of that one too.

            Some background info...

I could not edit or add a note regarding delivery to my initial ad because it was closed to further comments, so I reposted today. With the powers that be requesting holiday gatherings be small this year, I figured people would be bored at home on Christmas Eve, so this would draw some attention and get members finger tips to begin typing.

When Modern machined the X-Heads, it was my first engine machining experience. I took for granted that Modern would provide flow numbers in their final write-up. All the information that I was provided is detailed in the ad. I reached back out to Bob at Modern when the question was raised, but was told no exact numbers were obtained. During build-up of the 340 engine assembly, I was advised not to use the ported heads, if I was planning to install stock 340 exhaust manifolds and intake. Veterans/"Mopar Professors" have commented that the heads have a significant amount of porting done to them and provided estimations.

I listed the heads for sale with the intention that another member might have a use for them as I do not foresee a stroker small block in my near future. The intent was to inform members interested that I might be able to coordinate a free ride out west as nobody likes paying for shipping.

There are many articles/postings on head porting. Some of the very same members that commented on my posting had similar discussions over the years.

            X-heads vs J-heads: what's the difference??

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Please feel free to reach out to discuss further including review of the invoice showing pricing. Should not be a shocker to those that had machining work performed lately "S" ain't cheap!

            Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to all!
