360 back firing bad

My 360 in my 75 dart backfires bad on the top end, it runs ok idleing and through mid range but when i stomp on it it back fires like crazy out the exhaust and sometimes out of the carb. The timing is set to 10° before. I took the carb apart and there was some junk at the bottom but after i cleaned it out it still does the same thing.

This little gear in the distributor can move up and down like an inch, is that normal or is my distributor messed up?

An INCH? LOL that certainly is not good. Some play is common in the upper part due to the mechanical advance but nothing like that.

Get a rebuilt at a parts house for cheap. It should help with spark scatter. Advance weights/springs could also be the problem. Checking with a good distributor can save you hours of guessing.

So i also had a charging issue so i ended replaced the voltage regulator, and i was on summit already so i decided to upgrade my coil to a blaster 2. Im not sure which one did it but now it runs way better!
