Which set of gears would be stronger. 4.56 with 9 pinion teeth and 41 ring gear or 4.57 7 pinion teeth and 34 ring gear. Would the later be thicker teeth?

Well, the axle splines are a set dimension so more splines equals a larger diameter axle shaft. An 18 coarse spline hemi input is stronger than the 23 spline fine input because the 23 spline input is 1 inch and an 18 spline is 1-3/16.

ah so...

so if the 23 spline input shaft was 1 3/16 it would be stronger than the infamous 18 spline. cool. didnt know there was an input diameter difference.

A hemi transmission also has a reduced pitch angle on the gears, while most race transmissions have straight cut gears. The hypoid action of angle cut gears makes a stronger gear but puts more thrust load on the transmission bearings. The bearings and case will become the weak link before the gears. The strongest transmissions have gears cut in a chevron pattern so the thrust loads are equalized by the gears while maintaining hypoid action for more tooth contact.
