Hi everyone. Anybody on here recall what it approximately cost to have their 340 set up for a 416 stroker kit, not including the kit itself. I've found different kits from $1500 and up. Im just looking for a rough estimate on labor. Id pull the engine and all that, just machining costs. The few shops I've called haven't gotten back to me yet. Thanks for any help!

So in this case it´s just the bore / hone job and balancing if you decide to buy an unbalanced Kit. I paid around 450 $ here in Germany for .030" over, as far as i know the prices are lower where you are.

Some guys prefer unbalanced kits, some not. Ask your machine shop what they charge for a balance job (most cast crank kits need some mallory to balance) - i have no idea about these costs.

balance is in the neighborhood of $200 depending on if they have to add weight.

you need to check with local shops - I know you put the feelers out - but that is a can of worms.
I just had mine CNC'd and it's not the cheapest route, but you get a much more precise engine in the end.

Awesome. I appreciative the help! That's much less than what i had budgeted for! I know that'snot an.exact number, but it helps a lot. I'll look around on the forum to see the ups and downs of balanced vs unbalanced. Thanks again!

I forget...but I think mine was about 600-800 bucks for cleaning the block, bore, hone, decking, and balancing the rotating assembly. Shop around and have a look; however, I would be willing to pay more for a shop that KNOWS small block Mopars.

I paid $400 here in central Ohio, and that was including having the reliefs (notches) on the bottom of the cylinder walls for clearance for the crank. See attached pic. Had to remove windage tray after I drove it and heard the tray grinding the crank...almost locked the motor up.

I went with the Eagle forged stroker kit; it was around $2000-2100 through Summit. Best of luck to ya!

If I were putting together another stroker I'd have the block tanked & cleaned, bored .030, Align bored, block clearanced, new cam bearings & freeze plugs, & then have the rotating assy balanced & the crank journals radiused(if not done by manufacturer). It can add up quick, but machining & balancing isn't somewhere you want to skimp. Especially if you drop a chunk on a stroker kit, you don't want problems. I'd contact the machinist or talk to MRL for prices & info 1st.

This is all stuff I'll be sure to ask about when i get ahold of someone! I was thinking about getting it supercharged but i like the idea of naturally aspirated engines. Were you guys overall satisfied with the power it produced?

Well, considering I have a small cam "street" car that can yank the front wheels a foot off the ground and run 10's in the heat of summer....I would have to say .....YES!! :D

The Scat Kit with cast crank I bought from Brian at IMM Engines is good to 500 hp, didn't need the block to be cut, and came balanced by/at Scat.

Checked all the clearances with I assembled it, and they were all on the money.

I cruise at 3700 rpm, put 3500 miles on it in 1 1/2 years, and beat the hell out of it on the road course track.

Hahaha,Flyfish, that's exactly what Im looking for! And autoxcuda,I'll definitely be looking into that. Thanks everyone for all your input. It helps more than ya know!
