Found a 440 and 727 trans for 500 obo. Complete and all stock. The motor allegedly has a 440-1 stamp on the block. Out of a 76-78 motor home. Is this a decent engine? I'm wanting to bore and stroke it to the max.. looking to do a high compression. Nitrous engine.

Best blocks other than early HP from what I’ve read.

It may have goofy heads on it but the block is probably pretty good

Good way to go , no trans alignment problems . I gave $500 for my 66 440 w/ trans still bolted to it .

Transmission probably has a short tail shaft with a drum parking brake on it. It can be easily switched though.

Okay thanks for all the information. However I can't find a aftermarket 440 block on that website?

Again, I'm totally new to mopar. So what do you guys think of the 6.4 426 hemi short blocks from a2speed.com? Come with 11:1 compression? Throw a dual carb intake and a set of victor jr cnc heads on it? What kind of power do you think it would make? Also. My mopar has the stock inner fender wells and v8 frame.
Would that work with a hemi?

Ohhhhhh, okay, I get it now.
You are interested in a gen 3 hemi as well as a big block old school engine.
Why not buy a Hellcrate engine with all of the fixin's and be done with it?
You will be money ahead if you go new school as opposed to old school............

Likely a steel crank engine even that late, as it's in a motorhome. Usually trucks and motorhomes still got the steel crank. Also, check for the HD truck heads and top end as mentioned. Not all were like that, but some are. The short block however, is probably pretty good. I would trust the stock block to 700 plus HP properly prepped.

Not if you "bore it to the max" as mentioned.
You never bore for cubic inches. You bore to get rid of wear.
Boring removes rigidity from the cilinders.

I never have understood why people say stuff like "bore it to the max". First, it makes them sound very inexperienced and immature, and secondly, as you say, it ruins a good block. Generally speaking, for about every .030" of over bore, you're only adding about 5 cubic inches. So, there's "THAT".

Ok listen here all you lil buddies. Before Everyone gets their feelings hurt... Let me dig deeper into what I'm going for. Lol By bore and stroke it to the max. I was hoping to bore and stroke it to the max that I can.. safely and reliably... sure anyone can "think" they're going to throw a 543 stroker kit into a 440. Kind of like all the big block chevys I've built In the past. I can't tell you how many guys bored 454s .100 over and stroked them to a 505 and even bigger. they blew up and were literally turds at the track. Where the smart people would do a 489 or 496... or even 468 big block chevys and totally blow the doors off most competitors. So that's what I'm going for. Sorry I wasn't clearer on that one. I want to take a 440 to the max I can before it becomes a unreliable pos. No doubt getting a old block I'm going to have to atleast hone it. And do bearings possibly bore it and even more... I'm going to build this car as a drag car. High compression nitrous engine... just that statement alone means new internals and much better heads/Higher compression. My dad and I did toss the hemi idea around but we decided to stick with a 440 build. NOW whomever said you never bore and stroke a engine for cubic inches. Has to be a clinton supporter lol. I get that most people wanting a nice cool running street engine never want to bore it over if they don't have too. But for all the drag racers out there boring and stroking their engines for more performance. I guess they just don't no what they're doing!? ‍♂️
