440 six pack air cleaner and 383 interchange

Hi Folks,

Question. I'm considering putting a 6-pack on my 383. Will the 440 six pack set up and stock 440 oval air cleaner fir?

I had a 440-6 in a '68 Barracuda and there was no room for an air cleaner.

The lower deck block may give you enough room but I would be surprised if the air cleaner does not hit the hood.

Yes. A Body 68 Barracuda.

There is something different about clearance on a Dart and on a Barracuda, but given that you are going with a low deck you should be fine. I had to cut the neck shorter to fit the single four air grabber air cleaner for my Barracuda than I needed to for a Dart (both 440 with stock intake).

As far as height, 440 six pack with cleaner fits in my '69 without a hood pad. It also fit when I had a '67 nose and hood on it. The wiper motor wart noses up to the filter element. As said in previous post the 383 requires a different intake. I'm not sure but I'm thinking the 340 carbs were recommended over the 440's with the 383 set up.

A couple of guy I know had to cut the neck shorter on the baseplate just as Jim said. 1 was a 400 in a 68 Cuda. Kim
