Has anyone used the 440 Source flywheel that they sell. It comes with a removable weight for internally balanced engines, or you keep the weight on for external balance engine.

They said that it will work on SB as well. We have used it on the 340 with no issues.
Now we are using a 360 which is externally balanced (as we all know) and will be trying this same flywheel with the added weight attached.
440 Source said that the weight of the flywheel for both BB and SB are the same.
Can anybody confirm this as I have not seen any spec for this.

Thanks

You need to drill it for external balance if using a cast crank 360 and std external balance damper. Unless you spent $ to internal balance and add mallory.

That's the diagram for a 71-90ish 360

Really depends on the weight that comes with the flywheel. There is more than one external balance weighting figure.

Small block external balance motors are different from external balance big blocks. Now it is possible that the 440 source flywheel has several different spots to bolt the McLeod flywheels do. I don't remember if the weight itself is different or just the position.

Hey Cracked, do you have this diagram for a big block as well?
If so can you post it, I would like to see the difference.

The 360 out of balance is different than any big block. Source "should" have weights for each cast crank.. Meaning 340, 360, 383, 400, and 440 cast cranks should all have different weights. AFAIK, only 360s came fctory with a manual trans and cast crnk. All others should have gotten forged cranks with manual transmissions, so that out of balance value may be hard to find. Best bet woul be to have the flywheel witha weight balanced with the crank, and the weight on the flywheel lightened as needed.

Cast crank B and RB motors use the same unbalance. Cast balancers are different. Heavy rod 440s (six-pack) motors use a different external balance.

Really? I would have thought otherwise but that's me thinking out loud. I was basing my opinion on the weights for the torque convertors which are unique IIRC.

Thanks Revhendo & Cracked for that BB flywheel spec.
440 Source told me over the phone that the balance was the same for BB and SB, but obviously not according to the two flywheel specs above, weight and location.

OK, who sells an inexpensive 360 stock flywheel?

Using the diagrams above, couldn't a 19.79 oz wieght be bolted to a neutral balanced flywheel opposite where the holes would be drilled for the 360 balance?
