63 Dodge Dart, now let me see;)

Great job!!!!
It always seems to take a lot of time before those new repop rubber thingies get right.
You did learn one thing.... when we don't know the answer, we just make up stuff!!!

Congratulations on a project well done

Be sure to keep us in the loop on finishing details and driving impressions .

Dang it now I have to get busy on my Dart !

Thanks everyone!! :thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou:

Ok, here's a report from a run yesterday~ my brother came over, he got in the far out back seat and chewie in the other, Gary riding shotgun;) AC was cooling groovily~ made it to the test drive range(A.D. Dyess park), got going along the chug chug almost died, did a bat turn and made it back to the garage.
Isn't it funny how a brain works, diagnosing along the way, what could it be?

Pulled the air cleaner and the carb was saturated inside and little to do pump shot from the accelerator pump. So I pulled off the carburetor, easy enough, pull the top of the carb off, nothing jumped out at me, but did notice the rubber part of the accelerator pump seemed, limp, flimsy. ha, I just happen to have that rubber part~ have no reason which comes to mind why I have it, but put it in, seemed less flimsy, then fought the metering rods to get the top of the carb back on. Have to keep in mind this carb has been ran for a decent amount of time over the past few months.

ok, here comes the stupidpidity thing, I "adjusted" the tab on the float thinking it wasn't allowing gas to get in, but I made it too tight actually cutting off gas getting into the carb. Take the carb back off, re-adjust, check the fuel pump for fun.
LSS, it's running now, but I'm not sure If I did anything. This is a knock off carburetory from Amazon. I am planning to buy a good carburetor, just haven't done it yet. So any ideas on this would be a good time to chime it.

Other: put a decal on the decklid, connected the horn(used one on the original horns).

To do list: seat belts, side mirrors(I didn't want side mirrors as I did such a good job covering the holes from the previous mirrors), but I just can't see anything on the sides of the car. The center mirror on the windshield works great.

ok, have to take a break, going to get a hamburger at our favorite burger place, a family owned an operated place.
Be back
dne'

I want people behind me know I'm driving a Dodge Dart:lol::lol:

Wish I had a few more of these to let you try > New Old Stock Stromberg, they sure run nice and great throttle response.

60s period correct too.

Happens to be the "Large" mopar 2 barrel bolt pattern.

More than likely your BBD 2 bbl is the small mopar bolt pattern.

Here is a Super Hurricane Flathead 6 Jeep 2 bbl carb.

They used these on the Jeeps just like the Super Six 2 bbl carb and intake for the mopars.

This Super Hurricane carb will definitely out perform the economy BBD 2 bbl carbs.

If you could ever find one. This one is 1956 vintage.

Tested on a stock build 360, then put it back on the Super Hurricane Flathead 6, ran great... owner was impressed.

Don’t feel bad , my Holly 1 v had to have starting fluid to start and had to be thoroughly warmed up before you could even try to accelerate.
I pulled it apart and found that the accelerator pump diaphragm was completely stiff, unable to move, nada .
I ordered a carb kit from Rock Auto for $58 , it’s a Standard Auto parts kit. I had priced a kit from NAPA they wanted $85 ,I asked why so high they said it’s becoming obsolete.

Well now the accelerator pump works like it should. I believe the 10% Ethanol gas is the cause.
Back in 2017 I rebuilt the carb with an old kit that was made before Ethanol started being mixed in. I also blame it for taking out my fuel pump then .
Hopefully the new kit came put up with the new fuels .

This is a stopgap repair as I want to install my Offy 4 v manifold with throttle body injection .

I just swapped a float on my carb and the arm was bent slightly. Well bad enough so that I could crank the needle until I ran outta threads and it wouldn’t shut off the flow. I bent it a little bit and it worked.
Junk in the needle is my first go to usually….
When I was living just north of you, I accidentally put the primary bowl on with a pair of love bugs inside!!! (God I don’t miss them).

Anyway good luck and I totally dig your Dart. Well done. I wouldn’t mind following subsequent builds.

Want to hear something funny  ! Gary was filming me/the car I had it running and let the clutch out but the car wouldn't go, it would struggle~ then I put it up on the lift and discovered my tether line to keep it from rolling forward when aligning it. What a relief!!
It goes into gear easily, let's out about midway, but I'm not pleased with the brake, so up on the lift it is to bleed the brakes, now it's 95 and that's my sign off time. In the morning we'll get the brakes bled and try again for The Official run through the A.D. Dyes park (soccer and girls softball), a great place to test out car stuff.

The grill is held in by two screws for a glamour shot, don't worry Glen, I'll black out the parts showing soon;)

Good morning, this is a very informative build I have been watching, thank you, in these pictures do you still have added wight in the trunk ? I would like to know what leaf springs you put under this beautiful build, I must have mist that post ... thank you.

Thank you so much for the compliments!! :thankyou: Never got around to putting weight in the trunk, but as for the leaf springs, I bought them from a vendor on Ebay, they were actually for a '64 dodge dart. I bought them earlier on in the build for some reason. There was a variation, but didn't cause any fitment issues. Just that they're new and sit up, but in time I would think there will be more settling

yeah, the C thing:( Started it this morning, ran really rough until warmed up, even so, didn't idle so great. the idle mixture screws have never done anything. Then to top the morning off, drained out the nasty coolant, basically evaporust. Flushed and installed antifreeze, now it seem to be slightly overheating whereas before is was running like 160-170, now it's like 180 with a squirrel cage blowing directly into the radiator~ have yet to give a decent run.
I wanted to take it to the AD dyess park, but there must be a large softball thing going on, traffic gets really stupid!

Also got the parking brake working~ and one side mirror( a temporary fix), now just need to get it to an exhaust shop. I have a muffler kind of pressed on and held by a coat hanger, but the muffler is just too quiet. Need a little sound, but not interfere with the radio or conversation.
Ethanol is bad. Chineesium is worse! Bad part is we never know when either or both will bite us in the butt! :BangHead:

Thank you so much, I will be looking at your Springking site you post.
Your are rocking this build !!

When idle/mixture screws don't
work, the real carb experts (which I am not) mumble something about some internal slot or something!!! Usually about some Holley, me, I just look for a Edlebrock! And just like that, there I go! :BangHead:

OMG, you explain things just like me:lol::lol:

I think what barbee was trying to say is crud can get caught in infinitely small passages in the carb and reek havoc. The idle air bleed slots in most carburetors are so small, just about anything can clog them. If it's a new carburetor (I think I remember you saying you bought it new, but that it was a Chinese source), it may just not have port sizing right (speaking of the idle circuit stuff). It might work better if you use a used and rebuilt 318 carburetor from a 1960's or '70s engine. I've had carburetors that I just couldn't tune, only to switch to another that -- on paper -- was identical, and have incredible success. The defunct carbs looked perfectly normal when I dissected them. Go figure!

Hi George, this is my new fan, I used the same spacer as before~ it's about as close to the radiator as I can get and also the other direction~ or "centered". I had bought a "fan wrench", a vintage Snap-on tool for the job which helped a great deal.

I would like to see a picture of your new quieter fan setup in place.

Thank You

Thank you Mike, I'll be looking out for another carburetor~ but in the meantime, it's running, I wouldn't say great. Yesterday I unscrewed the mixture screws just about until they fell out, and all the way in~ just nothing happens lol. Going for a ride as soon as I can get my body functioning this morning. So I'll be back in a little bit.

This is the carburetor that came with the two barrel manifold. I didn't know what kit to install, so I just bought the Amazon, now I'm looking at this carburetor again.
