So I parted out this Barracuda and the rear belts on the outside of each are only attached with like a #8 or 10 panhead screw !

Is this a factory install ? Doesn't seem very safe to me.

Better than none at all like my 65. I can't even find holes to mount some. Probably just going to get some in the front and let someone else worry about the rear ones someday. Anyone have pics of mounting hole locations for rear belts?

Doesn't sound safe to me either. You sure that's not the belts that just mount behind the sill plate and hook to the back seat to hold it down?

Hey fellas. This isn't a sale thread. Take it to a PM.

You could get these with rear seat belts? All three of the early As i got around don't have any and one doesn't have front belts

My 66 Dart does. 63-65 were few and far between.

Yup, just hold down straps for the seat back when it's folded down.
I bet you and 73charger 318 are right. See the photo in post #2

Those aren't normal looking buckle ends.

The rear belts on my 64 valiant run between the seat back and bottom, bolt through the floorboard with large washers (about 2 ½ - 3" diameter) on the underside.

There were a whole lot of useless seatbelts on the market at that time, before there existed any federal safety standards with the force of law behind them. Here are a few clips from Consumer Reports magazine (which, back then, actually did thorough scientific work and reporting in the interests of the American consumer). That American Safety company made a lot of belts for Chrysler, many of them under the "AmSafe" brand. Another major supplier of Chrysler's seatbelts was Pontonier.

My 65 had no signs of any belts when I found it, except for the two bolts on the transmission tunnel that are not budging. I hope they didn't weld them in!

I bought the two belts RRA asked about as well as the front seat belts. I'll either spray paint with fabric spray or may take a shot at trying to acid dye them red. Anyone have any success or failure stories on changing a belts color?

I did find two screw holes for the rear hold down belts and the new door panels even have a nice little cutout for the belt.

They're nylon, so they won't take dye as if they were something like cotton. Honestly, though, you might as well not bother installing them at all unless you get them rewebbed. I mean, read that Consumer Reports article I posted and look how the webbing failed in a whole lot of brand-new belts from back then, in crashes of 18 or even 15 whole, entire miles an hour. Now add more than half a century of age, heat, sunlight, dirt abrasion…have them rewebbed in whatever colour you want. This outfit has been at it for years, and there are others, too.

Good suggestion. Those guys were saved in my bookmarks so I must have looked at using them before. These guys will reweb the belts but I don't think they do anything to restore the buckles.
