It is and it isnt at the same time. He is physically 12 but high functioning on the spectrum and as such is a bit delayed so think 9-10 years old mind wise. He does get frustrated on things rather quickly and he complains a LOT about most everything and everyone. He has no "filter". If it pops into his head, out of the mouth it comes. I try to blow it off, and just tell him to go in the house and leave it all there, then come back outside. Not in my shop with that crap. But on weekends when my wife is at work, it kinda sorta gives him something to do with me. Boredom is a big thing with him. He cannot seem to entertain himself.

Today he was freaked out because of a single wasp starting to build a nest near the back door to the house. I had nothing chemical wise to kill it instantly like carb or brake cleaner, and told him if you leave it alone it will leave you alone. That I would kill it later. Of course he acted like we were all gonna die from this lone wasp. He called it a she. So i asked him how he knew it was a female wasp. He said it's got long legs and a big butt. So I started singing "Baby got Back". I asked him if "she likes big butts and cannot lie". Of course that made him wail even more about it. I finally knocked it down with starting ether, and knocked the beginnings of the nest down with a broom. My wife got home from work, and he was sobbing saying I was torturing him. Such is life. Maybe tomorrow I will ask him if he "likes big butts and cannot lie" LoL. Or maybe not. I am spending the whole day with him after all.

Nah this kids a special case. Today I told him I had to wash my truck, do an oil change and a tire rotation. He said can I help. I said sure, but I'm only washing the outside. The interior I always keep spotless. So he says why are you forcing me to help you wash the outside. I said I am not forcing you to do anything, but I'm not cleaning the inside. But he kept on about it, so I told him just stay inside.

I wont tell him this, but he cleaned the inside of my wifes car, and I guess he kept dipping the cloth into grey water in the bucket, and it left dry dirty streaks on everything. I only need a lightly dampened cloth in clean water to pick up any dust, but I am very particular, and no I just don't want it messed with at this time.

I have two the older one is 19
Almost completely useless in the shop
If he wasn't needed that second he would disappear...he needs to be occupied all the time very smart but hard to even talk too
Got him into martial arts
The first 5 years he just fumbled around
Now he's a paid instructor bad *** kid
4 + hrs a day 5 days a week and schooling
The 13 year old ...the little jerk ...
Stubborn..knows everything...in the gate program at school just started liking cars
Now he knows everything.....
Works with me on Saturdays and some Sundays
Yesterday was grumpy.....pia kid
But hate to push him too much
Dont want him to give up on it
Hes so much fun now I that thank god everyday
For are little surprise
Being im 62 and he's 13 ....big change in my retirement plans

This mornings foray. The pin fits tight, but the aircraft mechanic in me feels better if I safety wire in the retainer pin. I got a vacuum advance and a new magnetic pickup on order. The designed2drive.com HEI bracket uses the 2 existing drain holes once you tap them with a 10/32 tap, so we drilled another drain hole with a #10 drill bit.

Finally back together. Man I'm a slow poke. Been pretty busy at work, and way tired when I get home. The parts have been sitting on the workbench for weeks. It only took maybe 30 minutes to assemble what was left. It's always so nice, and satisfying to reassemble clean parts. I need to make my Mopar pickup to HEI module plug in adaptor next.

I may not get them installed today, but I took the day off of work to get started. Gap checking everything, then install the rings, and check the side gap. I will use a black sharpie to mark the piston tops as to where to orient the ring end gap location for installation. I'm not in a super hurry. Just enjoying my music and time alone in the shop.

I like your system you have laid out there. Did you have to open the gaps up much for the KB pistons? Gapping rings can be a pretty time-consuming task, and better done with no distractions like you said you did it. I finally got a fine grit fishhook sharpener to use to debur the ends of the rings after filing the gap.

According to KBs chart based on my bore of 3.940" the top ring needs to be at minimum. 026" gap. Mine are all at .018". So yep, I need to open them all up a little bit. Since I didnt have one, I bought a manual ring grinder off evilbay. They stated the #2 compression ring was not as critical.

Part of the reason it's slow going is this. 86 F150 a young man who works for me owns. First gen EFI, it runs like crap. Too many amateurs screwing with it. Broken and loose connectors, missing sensors, cut and spliced wires all over the damn place. An absolute mess. Plus the parts are hard to find and expensive. I told him the best thing to do at this point is put a carburetor on it, and throw the EFI in a dumpster.

We are in the process of converting that whole mess to a 4 barrel carburetor and regular electronic ignition. The farther we go into this truck, the worse it gets. I liken it to peeling a rotten onion. When you think the layer you uncovered is the end, it just gets worse. Too many amateur (wiring engineers) got ahold of it before I did. Now I am unFucking the whole mess.

The only thing that worked was the headlights. So it's not just the EFI I'm helping him remove, I'm getting the rest of the wiring to work as well. I'm enjoying correcting it, but I think this along with the 69 cuda are the 2 worst unFucking messes I have taken on.

We are going to run a Ford Duraspark vacuum advance distributor, fired with a GM HEI module, hidden inside a Duraspark brain box.

Somewhat sorta before and after photos. A lot more to do, but the wiring mess is closing in on being buttoned up. Waiting on plug for ignition coil, and still have to hook up electric fuel pump wiring. I ran a tach lead inside the cab. I figure why not. Might as well make it a bit easier for the kid. Everything is soldered and shrink tubing.

So as we peeled open more of the "rotten onion" we found this massive butchered hole above the radio cutout. I have no earthly idea why this was done, but it appears to have been purposely hacked in there.

But the best is the homemade Zee bar and frame pivot point we removed. This truck was originally an automatic. Some "expert" converted it to a manual, and hacked a hole in the floor for a toploader car 4 speed. The curved alternator bracket was what was rubbing on the fork to release the bearing, and the pivot point bolted to the frame looks like a cut in half shock plate lol. I mean it did work, but was rough as a cob.

We have all the parts to put in a hydraulic clutch and will drill the holes in the firewall to mount the clutch master cylinder.

Rusty fuel tank was removed yesterday as well, so we made all the progress we intended to make in one day. Plus we tested the HEI setup and it will jump a 3/4" gap with that 60,000 volt E coil

I will make more progress on the 318 and the 69 cuda, but I need to help him get this thing together. Tristian is pretty good at remove and replace, but wiring, fabrication, and unFucking is not something he is good at. I figure I will get it far enough along, that he has a solid reliable working foundation to build on. Then the rest is on him. In light of all the homemade crap and hacked up **** we found, we decided to name this truck "Wetback".
