A friend has a 68-70 dodge A100 van. it is a 318/ 3speed manual. He changed the center section from 3.55 to 2.94 a while back. Now his speedo is off (speedo gear needs to spin faster.)
Here's the weird part. The speedo gear goes into the transmission on the passenger side of the transmission & it does not look like there is the aluminum adapter ???
Anyone have any idea what trans he has ??? Also can you change the speedo gear in the transmission/ to correct the speedometer needle being wrong ???

A friend of mine has a 69 pickup. It was converted to 833 on the column with a pull lever reverse. Anyway, the truck came with 2 extra 3speed trans in the bed. I can take pictures tomorrow if that helps!

If you could take some pictures, that would be great. Thank You :)

It appears the speedometer cable was cut?

Can you back that nut off to see what is underneath?

I’ll get over and get right in there soon. I haven’t made it over to him yet. I just asked for a few pix and this is what he sent. There are two, so I’ll be sure to document both and any differences I may find

That is the for-runner to the A230. I think it was called an A745, and comes with an unsynchronized first gear.

The later models use a smaller diameter speed-o gear, and they are tuneable. Just pop it out and count the teeth, then adjust by using percentages A faster spin requirement requires fewer teeth. the difference is 2.94/3.55-.828. If you find a 30tooth speedo in there, then you would need 30 x .828= 24.8, rounds to 25teeth.
