Does anyone have a photo of an unmolested 1968 barracuda tach (in dash, not console) P/N 3004195? I’ve heard tachs in early 68 cars had curved numbers (like Speedo) and later cars may have had horizontal numbers and a different sweep. I understand early cars sometimes had leftover prior year parts installed. I simply want to know about p/n 3004195. Hopefully someone knows. Thank you.

Yes! I’m hoping that tach is correct for 68. It looks so much better with the font style matching the speedo. Do you know the mod history or build date of the car pictured?

Part #3004195 is an "over the counter" replacement by Dixco. It is NOT factory.

That P/N is listed in the 68 Mopar literature as the tach option. It includes the tach, mounting hardware, and other necessary items. Perhaps Dixco hijacked the number, or that other poster was mistaken about what he had.

The bezel is 68/9, but tach is 67 style(so is steering wheel fyi). Looks great tho.
I almost want to say early 68 Barracuda‘s had the 67 and later had the 69 style. I have this info somewhere. I’ll try to find.
I have an early (August 28 1967) 68 Formula S 383 Auto Barracuda with unmolested factory Tach. I'll take a few pictures.

Could be down to which production plant the cars were assembled at.
Tach part number in your book has an asterisk, indicating it was changed, perhaps mid year.
The number in my original post was on the ordering page (from Hamtramck site). It was for the tach option, and may have included other items besides the tach itself.

Katie, the asterisk is for "use as required" if you read at the bottom left of page. Google "mopar tach 3004195" the only stuff that comes up is over the counter mopar tach VERY similar to Dixco. Its not factory.

Ive been researching and dealing with 2nd gen cudas for over 35 years. For 68/9 the only factory tach(besides console) is #7729. Wait that's bs cuz the 6 cyl version, even more rare is a different #.

Thanks for link, maybe I missed it but I dont see any part# 3004195 on there? I do see mention of tach(and looks like in 68 it was 8 cyl only).

Not trying to nitpick, but my parts manual shows six point asterisk for Change or addition, and five point star for Use as required. The star appears in the PER CAR column. js

And I have that 2857729 tach right in my hand. #3004195 still hasnt been shown to me in Factory mopar literature. Youve shown it in a cropped image, that's it. You've shown me a link and I asked "where" in that link is "#3004195". I didnt see any reference to your #.
Im not investing any more energy into this, sorry. Im open to learning, so hopefully someone proves that 3004195 was a 68 FACTORY(not dealership) installed tach.

I see it now. Look at pics of both gauges. Neither of those mount in the dash. ON yes, console yes. Not in dash.

I think the pics are for the console tach and the vacuum gauge. It doesn't look like there is a pic of the in-dash tach. It does list the "3004 195" tach in both the 68 and 69 literature so that part number does appear to be a MOPAR item. I wonder why it doesn't show up on your parts manual.

I get that, but "some" of those goodies listed could be "Hustle Stuff" or dealer install. Google 3004195. Next to.nothing comes up. Nobody has posted an actual Pic of that gauge with that #. So im sticking with dealer item. Better chance finding unicorns then this fabled factory tach.

You're right, when I search I see several mentions of that part number but never a picture of an actual unit with the number on it.
