Hey guys, rebuilding the 7.25 rear end out of my 65' Valiant. I've gotten the whole thing apart except for the pinion shaft. So far on the shaft I have removed the 1-1/8" nut, washer, flange, and seal. In my service manual it says, that there should be a pinion shaft lock pin. Now I have cleaned and looked around the shaft and see nothing of the sort. After a few wacks with a dead blow it doesn't seem to want to move. Is there something i'm missing here???

I'm reading those as being the directions for taking the differential differential cross pin bolt and pinion (spider) gear shaft out. These are crush sleeve axles so its definitely going to take some pretty sharp blows to knock the pinion out of the front case bearing.

Leave the bearing on the pinion while hitting with dead blow.

You need a large drift to drive the pinion gear out. You’ll need a 2-1/2 pound engineering hammer to Drive the pinion out. The front pinion bearing inner race is an interference fit on the pinion, it will stay in the snout of the case when you drive the pinion gear out.
