Joe, it does have some texture to it, i wouldnt call it wrinkle because its smooth , i hope that makes sense....

If your texture is fine then lightly paint it with semi flat paint.

The only easy part of wrinkle paint is screwing it up!

Must go in even and heavy. Must be warm to wrinkle. Can't go over old wrinkle paint, needs stripped.

I've never seen an original unrestored one that was not wrinkle finish. Nowhere near smooth. I think yours has been repainted in the past.

I used some black wrinkle paint that I bought at the Harley Davidson dealer. It turned out more realistic than VHT, but DANG....it was expensive for a spray bomb can! :realcrazy:

I used VHT High Heat Wrinkle Plus paint. Make sure to follow the instructions or it may fail to wrinkle(Ive seen it fail). 3 heavy coats applied in a crosshatch pattern(horizontal, vertical, diagonal) five minutes apart. I cured mine in an oven at 200 degrees for 20 minutes. Looks fantastic.

That looks GREAT!

its still wears the original yellow decal, i dont believe its ever been painted
Repo's of the yellow air cleaner decals were available in the early eighties.. In the 70's when I repainted air cleaners I would peel the decal & reuse it...
