72 Demon Door Latch

The driver's side door latch on my 72 Demon is broken. Everytime I open the door the latch drops completely. I have to press in either door handle and can lift the latch manually and it will stay in place when I let go of the door handle. Holds the door closed just fine if I remember to do this, but every once in a while when I forgot and go to close my door, "WHAMMO"! I can buy a replacement assembly but I've been told that you can simply replace the spring which is within the door latch assembly and save some cash.

Anyone every done this before? Am I better off just replacing the entire latch assembly? If I can replace just a piece of it, what exactly is it called and where do I get one?
