Hello. Is it a worth while swap to get a new pinion yoke and slip yoke with 7290 u-joints to replace the 7260 stuff I have? Since I need my drive shaft rebalanced, shouldn't I go ahead and have the ends cut off and new 7290 ends welded on?

If you are going to spend the money to convert, do 1350's

James,I run the 7269-7290 u-joints in my 66 Dart with 410/904 at the track. No problems with u-joints ever.

If you do end up swapping ends,I,m with the other guys on the 1350.Look for the conversion 7260/7290 first.Cheaper.

X3 on the 1350's That way it will be done forever.

I ran the 7260/7290 conversion on my 65 Coronet for years. Cars weight was around 3600lbs and ran Hi 11's. The conversion isn't junk but 1350's are piece of mind.

Torq and heavy cars are the downfall for smaller u-joints.

It might not be worth doing unless its a car with slicks or 4 speed. If your rear is a 489 case, the pinion depth is set by a crush sleve (unless it was converted). You won't be able to to pull the pinion yoke off and place a new one properly without taking it all apart. In that case, I would just get heavy duty U-joints.

OK. Thanks for the help everyone. I guess I'll stick with the 7260 stuff for now and spend money elsewhere if it's not entirely needed. It's not a race car or anything, just a performance driver with a nicely warmed over 318 and rebuilt 904 with all the right stuff, red clutches, kolene steels, shift kit, PTC converter, yada yada. It was just a thought I had in my mind while I was shopping for new U-joints...:)
