I have a 727 transmission in a 75 scamp with a built 340 it has a reverse full Manual valve body it was running good then I changed transmission fluid and put atf+4 in it now when driving sometimes it feels like the car is braking and holding it back I can floor it in 2nd gear and it want tach over 4000 and the brakes are not sticking pretty sure it's the transmission. Can someone help if the transmission can cause that

Why did you put ATF+4 in it? That's not what it calls for.

Well check fluid,then check the linkage if that's all correct pull the pan.

And I'm not 100% sure it's the transmission we drove the car a few miles got back home checked the differential fluid and it was really low it needs a new pinion seal we just got one to put in it

honestly, I'd check the fluid level. remember that it needs to be in neutral to get a proper reading.

the whole "it had a different motor in it" is kind of cryptic. care to expand upon that?

He just got the car it had a 340 in it and I had just rebuilt a new 340 and he just swapped that engine out for mine the transmission ran good with the old 340 and it ran good with my new 340 then we changed the transmission fluid and noticed that the differential was really low on oil it has a pinion seal leak we just got a new pinion seal to go in it haven't done it yet

is it possible something went awry on the engine install with regard to the transmission? torque converter hub not seated properly, torque converter not engaged properly, kick down or linkage not attached properly, a bent or kinked line?

and maybe one of those instances were already at work, and changing the fluid & filter just happened to be a coincidence with the problem you're currently having.

I can't see how the pinion leak would have any effect on transmission operation.
