just bought 71 duster with 440 727 trans the kick down is not ther can a727 be bulit to run without one. this is a complet mistry car i know nothing of the bulid
 
Have you driven it yet? If so a manual valve body will start out in whatever forward gear you put the shifter in. In other words put the shifter in second and it'll start in second gear. Put it in high and it'll start in high gear. If it shifts through the gears like a normal trans it either needs a throttle pressure (kickdown as some improperly call it) lever or cable installed or you'll burn the trans up real fast. Not to mention it'll shift sloppy and quick. You can install a manual valve body like Tony said but it's easier and cheaper to install a cable or linkage
