As the title states, I'll be headed home for a few days to install the engine/trans combo into my '65 cuda. What would be the trans mount I'm needing, stock crossmember. Car originaly came with a 904 so the local autoparts is helpless.

    Thanks in advance,
    Roger

The transmission mounts are the same regardless of the transmission used. In other words, your 904 mount will bolt right up to the 727.

Thank you Grumpus, that was the answer I was looking for.

:burnout: My dumb A$$ took out my transmission to install a 727 and forgot to remember the direction of the crossmember. It had about a 1" lip on one side. I can post a picture later. Any ideas on the front or rear.

Is there a shorter mount that goes in the crossmember for 727 in 65 dart? Trans is up against the rubber snub on top of tunnel here...

Is that rubber bump stop even necessary?

Even with the rubber out, trans tail still hits

Where is it hitting? I know in some early A-bodies, the pinch weld may interfere with the 727's bellhousing. I had to do some trimming on mine to make it work.

Trimmed the pinch weld and hammered where needed. Just discovered this 65 dart has shallower crossmember than 67up.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying. Is your car a 65? Is the mount a 65 mount? Is the crossmember a 65 crossmember? If all three answer are yes, it should fit. If it doesn't something is wrong. Maybe the tailshaft housing of the transmission is an oddball and lager than a normal one??? Time to do some detective work.

Once I have the 67up crossmember, I'll post side by side comparisson pics. Basically, the 65 crossmember does not hang as low, which would give the larger 727 more room. It was when I noticed my 65 crossmember is flanged front and rear versus rolled front/flange rear of the 67up that I looked at the bolt locations to the unibody.

Exhaust cutout should be on driver side to accommodate
the slant as well as the 273 Y pipe. The 727 is tight and is somewhat overkill for a light A but it can be made to fit. Mine hit the tunnel too even with the pinch weld hammered down.

Then that changes the drive line angle and presents a new set of problems. I would just use the 904.

What is actually hitting??? Is the tailshaft housing hitting on the bump stop? Or is the trans hitting somewhere else. If it's only hitting on the bump stop, try unbolting it to see if it fits. I realize all of these cars are slightly different due to factory tolerances, but that's an odd place to be interfering with. Is the engine in the stock location???

Will a 67+ crossmember work in an early A? At the very least, you'll either have to slice up the 67+ crossmember, or notch the torsion bar crossmember as pishta pointed out.
