i have this auburn style 8.25 sure. bought from a good friend. it was in working condition. it broke the bolt on the cross pin so he pulled it. i seperated the unit to get the cross pin pot. my problem is the two side gears are stuck on the cross pin. im almost positive i can press them off,but can i buy a new cross pin and reuse them? they do not make repair kits or gears for this unit. i cant afford a new unit amd want to try to use this one. thanks

The 8.25 in my dart sport had a broken retaining pin. I was lucky enough to use a magnet to pull out the broke piece without taking it apart. Rock Auto has the pins for dirt cheap. I bought a few extras to have on hand. The same pin is used in other diffs, including some ferds and chubbys.

Man I totally appreciate that

The problem I've had is after you get it apart look close at the cone and the case if they are worn, both parts are worn and the taper will have a bowl shape, at that point the unit never works very good, as long as there is good spring pressure they still work somewhat but not like they should.

None of it looks worn. Looks really. Good. Looks like low mileage use. It worked perfect in buddy's car till. It broke cross pin bolt

You can machine the cones then add shims to the spring pack to refurb the cone units. In other words, machine the axle side of the cone then add a shim on the opposite side to make up what you machined off.
