Thanks for all of the suggestions. I will try adding more fluid and see if that helps. One other question. The kit had me set the kickdown band 2.5 turns from 72 in lb. Most of the advice is to go 2 turns. So my question is what does tightening or loosing the band do? could that be part of the high 2-3 shift? Sorry i wish i had written down all of my "specs" when i did it. But being the first one i did i was just trying to keep it inline with that i was reading for acceptable.

What lever ratio is in there now. Describe how it is shifting. Kim

sadly i dont know. The trans was out of a '78 coronet. When taking off slowly the 1-2 shift happens nicely around 15 mph. The 2-3 shift revs out and sometimes wont shift going over 40. If i get on it and let off then it seems to go to 3rd. It is inconsistent as the next time i take off it might shift to 3rd around 35. I have the kickdown cable adjusted to be fully tight (towards rear) when the carb is wide open.

I installed the Transgo No YoYo SKTF-SC kit in 1989. This was NOT a shift kit.
It fixed a list of 6 complaints, including: 'Drainback. Engages slow after setting. Leaks oil when parked.

So i added a quart more and now is about 1/4 in over full on the dipstick. Shifting from 2-3 has greatly improved! thank you for that. One thing is that cruzing at 40 and flooring it does not result in kickdown to 2nd. I verified that the linkage is being pulled as far back as it can go at WOT, and adjusted the kickdown band to 2 turns out. So the question is if it should kickdown there? will it only happen at slower speeds? or something still not right. Thanks again for all the help.

That's great news. On the kd issue, maybe somebody left out the checkball that goes right next to the small hole that TransGo requires to be drilled out. The one next to the wall that gets cut out in TF-2.

When i did the shift kit i put in the check balls it called for. The tci kit required drilling a section of the valve body, but not the small hole that i see in the TransGo kit.

should have mentioned that it called for locations 1 through 4 for check balls.

On the stock kickdown linkages, we set them at full open on the pressure valve and wide open on the throttle.

Take them out and drive them, then we keep pushing (turning) kickdown linkage back towards the fire wall at the first kickdown rod from the carb.Usually takes 2 to 3 turns to get the pressure to come on sooner so it will kickdown at your prefered speed and rpm.

Stays in second a little longer on the upshifts too.
