I have a 904 that I want to freshen up but need to figure out what year it is before I buy a kit. The guy I got it from couldn't remember .

The # on the case on the pan rail is ( the first letter I can't make out for sure)

1(?)- PK2892027 2292 0000
Has a big 871-2 cast in the bell housing.

The guy said it was a 78 or 79 but wasn't sure.If I remember correctly they started making the lock up converter trans in 79. Thanks for any help. AL

2892027 is in the late 60s. It was easy, I looked it up in my nifty Appendix A of the TF book.

The only difference is the rear seal. They made the hole in the tailhousing larger after about 69 but I get a lot of newer ones that take the old seal. I have a collection of about a dozen of the newer rear seals. Same as a v8 kit. Just buy the cheapest one. Go to a place that sells to the shops. They'll have the tiny selectives. But I always say don't order anything until you know all your hard parts are good.
