    Is this hole behind the torque convertor supposed to be open like this (see photos)? It is very shallow. Thank you.

    And did the factory paint the automatic transmissions at all before they were installed in the vehicle? Thank you.

    I believe there is a sheet metal baffle behind it...it's a vent. "Sometimes", a plug is put in and a vent is put on the tailshaft housing on top.

      As stated above, it is the factory vent with baffle on inside.

          You're welcome. Glad I could remember something from transmission class and rebuilding one. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

          Oh I don't know. I think it depends on the situation. Sometimes kickin the mind in neutral is the best thing for it. lol
