Rebuilt 904 with A&A transbrake, billet low reverse servo, 4.2 lever, 5 thin frictions in front drum. 1/4-1/2 throttle 1-2 shift is flawless, 2-3 feels like I hit the brakes when going into 3rd. full throttle all shifts feel fine.

Any ideas for a remedy?

Sounds like a 2-3 bind-up. The front clutch is engaged before before the 2nd gear band has fully released causing the trans to be in 2 gears at once. What was your clearance on the front clutch? I go for .015 - .020 per friction. Also in the 904 I put 2 springs on top of the front servo piston to speed up the release of the front band.
How was your front band adjusted?
You need to sort this very soon or you're gonna toast your new trans quick.
Just a few ideas.
Cheers Gaz

Thanks for quick response. I'm using CRT Racing front and rear servo. The front band is torqued to 70 in and backed off 2 turns. The front clearance is .072. Rear is .040.

make sure your linkage is adjusted correctly....put shifter in neutral..put trans in neutral..does the swivel move in n out freely....have some shift into 1st...does the swivel move in n out of hole freely....do same in 2nd..and 3rd..

I checked adjustments before startup, and after test trial linkage is off!!! The shifter is a Hurst Pro Matic2. Big thanks to kickdown and 70aarcuda. I'll make adjustments and let you know how it works.

2 turns is too tight, back it off 1/2 turn, see what happens. Band release; tighter = later, looser = sooner. If that doesn't work you may need 'the plug'.

Yeah, you know what I'm talking about; the orifice plug for 3rd gear hole. Keeps it from engaging as quick.
