904 tranny

if i have a 904 tranny that was matched to a slant 6, can I use that same 904 on a V8 say like a 273 or 318? I see where some ads have 904's and have a 318 or 273. How many 904 trannys were made? I was told at one time, if i put a V8 in my car, I would need a 727 tranny in order to do that. Then I was told I can use my 904.

Im confused.

no a slant six trans will not bolt to a v-8.

904 is fine for any v-8. if high performance is needed you just have to use quality parts and have someone who knows them well put it together..

So whats the difference between a slant6 904 and a V8 904? Even if that V8 is a 273?

bell housing. starter is in a different location and the bolt pattern is different.

just doesn't physically bolt up.
